Some groups and individuals who were consulted by the government about whether to release the secret list had argued doing so could harm Ukraine. They said that Russian propaganda in the war against Ukraine could benefit from the disclosure that Ukrainian Nazis were among those who came to Canada. They expressed fears that the information could fuel Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unfounded claim that the invasion of Ukraine amounts to a purge of Nazis.

Lol if it is such a bad list it could bring down Ukraine

That's what I mean. if you take them at their word, there is something more insidious to be derived from this information. The general concept that former Nazis fled Europe is of no consequence. To be a problem for modern Ukrainian politics, it could involve some sort of ongoing relationship, or more likely, a relationship that was reestablished after the dissolution of the USSR. ???

Yes, the OUN-B was maintained in exile by the CIA and its allies during the cold war. A lot of Ukrainian fascists (infamously) fled to Canada. After the cold war ended, these people were of course welcomed back into Ukrainian politics.

I doubt it could bring down Ukraine, though, liberals around the world have known for years that Ukraine had a huge nazi problem and they've been successfully plugging their ears and yelling "Putin troll" to ignore it. More likely this is really an issue of ties to Canadian politicians.

In the article it mentions a draft of the list being found by an historian. They said they were able to look at it which gives the impression its not public? Hopefully that person makes it available at some point because it would surely suggest what kind of thing is at issue. I wonder if it is under some sort of copyright or maybe he doesnt want to get scooped on some academic project by sharing his source materials. Or maybe he doesnt want to get sued by families since it probably contains at least a few totally random names and many more who would claim plausible deniability.

Hey! That's the best buddy of the (former) Deputy Prime Minister's grandpa, Michael Chomiak! There was a big "hate crime" investigation back home after their monument to the SS Galicia Division was given an accurate update a few years ago. A monument they put up for their deceased comrade, Roman Shukhevych (who became a Good Nazi rather than be arrested by Soviet police), was appropriately redecorated around the same time.

They don't have anything to worry about! There is always South America to portrait as THE Nazi safe haven.

Just don't ask about NATO officials, operation paperclip, NASA's key members, Western Germany or whatever the fuck KKKanada did with their own Nazis.
