Websites like Pornhub knowingly hosted and profited from child pornography/CSAM and trafficking. Pornhub is owned by Aylo, formerly MindGeek, which has a monopoly on the industry.

A lot of those “Girls Do Porn” videos were rape.

What percentage of your porn consumption are you okay with being rape?

Because I only watch porn where the actresses are also the producers and owners of the production company.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

For every 100 rapes reported to the police, about 3 people will go to prison.

Our political leaders are known rapists.

In the Catholic pedophile scandals, it's not uncommon for the parents of victims to side with the Church.

In all the hullabaloo over the Epstein files is about what powerful men are going to be embarrassed. Nobody is even talking about how to prevent billionaires from being able to snatch teenagers off the street.

Western culture loves and celebrates the rape of little boys and girls, why should our porn be more benevolent than our society?

Basically all porn I consume is fictional, so I don't have that issue.

What is any individual supposed to do about it? Find the home of the assailant and firebomb it? Report it to the police, who will also likely waive it as inconclusive?

I get the moral sentiment, but you're talking about something that requires immense amounts of investigating, that only federal institutions can do anything about.

Like yeah, sexual slavery exists. Explain to me how to tell consenting from non-consenting porn with any accuracy and I'll gladly start reporting videos. But virtue signaling without a plan of action is just guilt-tripping fear-mongering.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world -5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Isn’t social shaming “action”?

Maybe when someone posts that “blacked” meme, of Piper Perri surrounded by five men, point out 1) that the image is racist as shit, and 2) that Piper Perri’s boyfriend killed her baby, and that comments joking about this are common on her videos and discussions about her?

My first year teaching, we played “hangman” and the kids came up with their own words (I was stupid to allow this). One of them chose “Pornhub.” Maybe talking about jerking it should be something that isn’t so normalized that kids feel comfortable doing that?

You could also report porn that is suspicious in provenance? Ask your bros, if they bring up a porn star what they think about this issues?

Advocating for social change in the way we talk about these things isn’t “virtue signaling.”

Just to address one of your points, since you made several: What's wrong with talking about masturbation? It's something most people do and should not be shameful; if anything it should be more normalised.

[–] fipto@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

OP is a teacher, the keyword there was "kids"

[–] fipto@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

you're asking the right questions. unfortunately a lot of people are so porn-brained that they have to silence anyone who dares ask a question that might make their peepees go soft.

so many people would rather look the other way and ignore harm to women and children because it benefits them to not think about it.

You go to better site and/or use paid services

This was the reason I stopped consuming it. I am not against porn, I like it, but verifying it is basically impossible. The issues usually boil down to money, same as usual.
Could be someone being forced by an individual.
Could be someone being forced by society (sex work as only way to afford college/healthcare/feeding a kid etc. even though the person feels being destroyed by it).
Could be private recordings posted as revenge.
You can't really know.
Of course that's a problem with other professions too, but all that can be done under capitalism is harm reduction. Similar to not buying from Nestle.

I just tried to think of what I can get absolutely ethically. Nothing. Even when thinking of vegetables directly from a farmer, dig in, and pesticides. How do they affect the environment, how were they produced, what happens to packaging. Nothing is 100% ethical. All I can do is try to avoid the worst or unnecessary.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I think one of the things with “no ethical consumption under capitalism” is that no one “needs” real people porn. Erotica and drawn images are amply available, there’s no need for another human being to be potentially harmed.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

why are you targeting women specifically? can men in porn not also be raped? what's the statistics of rape in porn that's gender neutral?

seems pretty careless to ignore 50% of your statistics if your whole point is to bring attention to sexual abuse within the adult film industry, which brings me to me final question.

what was your intent on posting about this across multiple communities?

[–] fipto@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

90 percent of adult rape victims are female. not every post has to be about everyone

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

90% of rape victims in adult film are women?

[–] fipto@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't exactly know, but I have no reason to think that adult films take place in an different world where the rape statistics are drastically different. is there reasoning to claim its 50/50?

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world -1 points 1 day ago

I never claimed it was 50/50. I said if their point was to bring attention to the sexual abuse in the adult film industry it's careless to disregard 50% of the statistics.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Gay for pay shit is often fucked up too. There you go. I think it’s actually harmful as shit that a lot of queer boys grow up with no access to actual sex ed and learn how to do things from porn.

What proportion is there of straight porn to gay porn?

[–] Luminous5481@anarchist.nexus -2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I imagine virtually all of the camgirls on OnlyFans are consenting. there might be somebody on there that has some dude with a gun off-camera forcing them to do stuff, but I can't recall ever hearing about it.

[–] vinceman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 5 hours ago

Literally how that Andrew Tate fuck face got rich, forcing women into sexual slavery camgirl shit.
