/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I hate new Trek. A bald French captain with an English accent? A blind man flying the ship? The first officer is completely unprofessional, trying to bang every woman he sees (Even holograms! The ship has a virtual brothel, now!). It wont survive a year, I guarantee it.

Ugh, and the computer keeps hitting on everybody!

Also needs Babylon 5 way outside the triangle. And Lexx in a corner smoking a crack pipe.

And Lexx in a corner smoking a crack pipe.

Brilliant. And farscape?

with Lexx, alone, or trying to get Stargate to do them too?

EDIT : I spitballed this before I realised that ~~Cryten~~ Crichton and Aeryn were on Stargate too :D

EDIT2 : Anglo names be crazy yo

EDIT3 : You'd think Crichton would be pronounced Kr-ich-ton, but it's pronounced Kryt-n. Or at least write it Cryton or Criton or something that's consistent with the rest of the rules of english

I'm not sure Lexx is crack. Maybe ecstasy or something like that. One of the uncomfortably touchy-feely party drugs where you worry that the person on it is going to start tonguing your elbow, and you really just need some personal space.

B5 is somewhere between not trek and good trek. I love it

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I love B5. I don't remember any of Lexx, but I think I saw an episode or two as a teen.

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Only thing I remember from Lexx are that the ship is a really powerful weapon of some kind and the scary hot girl made me feel things.

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I thought I remembered it being on Skinimax, but it doesn't look like that was the case. Why do I think Pamela Anderson was on it?

[–] SatyrSack@quokk.au 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 49 minutes ago) (1 children)

You sure that wasn't the porn parody?

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 1 points 8 minutes ago

With what little I've seen of Lexx, I don't think the two are that far away from each other

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 22 points 7 hours ago

It’s so far up on the Good Trek scale that it has left the meme

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 21 points 7 hours ago (3 children)

Sorry but except for LD, everything NuTrek doesn't fit at the top of that triangle for me, and belongs in either one of the bottom corner.

Or maybe I just don't like Star Trek anymore. Just like Seymour; am I wrong for not liking NuTrek? No, it's the children who are wrong!

Nah, it's not you. Trek has changed for the worse. Sure, it's pretty and shot well, and the actors are trying. Though the writing is modern action drama for the most part. It's not written to be timeless. It's not written to be intelligent first. It's written to be "entertaining" first.

Everyone says later seasons of Picard are good, but... I just cannot. I cannot accept the universe they built. 1.5 entire seasons of shit drag it down for me. I'd take another SNW singing episode over Picard.

Academy is still continuing in the entertainment first route, but it at least seems like they're attempting to inject a little intelligence into it. Still a bit dubious on saying it's "good" trek, but at least it's not corrupt trash. Or maybe the rest of the junk has just eaten away at my sensibilities.

[–] Someonelol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Nah I felt the same with Discovery and SNW. They both suffer from short seasons that don't really go exploring in favor of drama. SNW just seems more like a retread of TOS with Captain Pike. Are we ever going to go further in the continuity after 90s Trek?

[–] user_name@lemmy.world 7 points 5 hours ago

While I want to say that the combined effort of JJ Abrams and DIS have thoroughly trampled that possibility. PIC

[–] waggz@programming.dev 3 points 4 hours ago

Discovery soured me so much i haven't watched anything but Picard since.

[–] kbal@fedia.io 9 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Huh. I'll have to give Lower Decks a chance; it's the only one with the name Kurtzman attached that I haven't yet watched and been disappointed by.

[–] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 21 points 6 hours ago (2 children)

Lower Decks is top tier Star Trek.

The more widespread your Star Trek knowledge, the more you'll enjoy it.

[–] pimento64@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 hours ago

What if you don't enjoy people acting obnoxiously? S.O.L.?

[–] caseyweederman@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 hours ago

It's Star Trek written by true Star Trek nerds.

[–] blackbelt352@lemmy.world 13 points 6 hours ago

I thoroughly enjoyed Lower Decks, just because it's a comedy doesn't mean it isn't serious sci fi with real stakes like any other trek show. It highlights how absurd the writing of trek throughout can be and still rolls with it, still treating that absurdity with the same seriousness as everything else crazy in the universe.
