I had a Bluesky account at the hight of the twitter migration. At the time it seemed promising and their were a lot of cool tools, both first and third parties, some of them still exist

I had to delete my account because I was at a point where I was overwhelmed by the amount of account I had, but I just got back and have been heating and seeing that bluesky has lost a lot of followers

So my question, did most people go back Twitter? Or did they disperse to other social medias across the internet. And why did people leave in the first place?

I see more and more people really stick to bluesky. People who had bigger twitter accounts have been focussing more on BS and deleting or hibernating their twitter. So I see the opposite of what you say.

Same. Bluesky just keeps getting more and more populated. It's a lot like my old Twitter feed now, except for the obvious absence of trolls.

I personally migrated to one of Blacksky's public PDSes, namely cryptoanarchy.network, when the main bsky.social PDS introduced a deeply unpopular ToS change back in October of last year, but I've also been actively posting on Mastodon lately.

And I got no problem moving to Mastodon full-time if the entire ATproto platform ever goes south including for third-party or self-hosted PDSes.

I killed my Twitter months ago and have no plans of starting one back up.

Lemmy and Bluesky are the only social media I use. I'm not a prolific poster, though, just a commenter. But I'm on them about every day.

Twitter and Bluesky are not my favorite type though. I'm less into following individual people and much more into talking about things. I'm not into celebrity culture, though there are a few people I enjoy the posts of — mostly news and politics-related. I wish I could vote for Kat Abugazelah. I would never have heard that name if not for Bluesky.

I’ll second this. I might follow a subject, but I far prefer discussion of multiple facets of a subject with multiple people rather than following one person. I’m almost never a “fan” of an individual to the point of wanting to hear about or see what they do next. The hivemind tends to be far worse in a fandom than it does a more open forum.

We need more people like Kat running everywhere. But yes, if I could vote for her I would

I'm not seeing decreased activity at all. 🤷‍♀️

There was a brief push for people to leave BlueSky right after a few people were banned right after the Charlie Kirk murder, but my observation is many people who flirted with Mastodon (look for the #fuckaas tag and accounts on the fuckaas.space instance) in that time stuck with BlueSky in the long run.

Come to Mastodon. It has never disappointed me.

Most of them remained on Bluesky as to them, it's better than Twitter and Mastodon. Few of them I know have tried the Fediverse and didn't have a good experience of it. They didn't like the amount of Reply Guy as well as getting deny that racism on there exist.

It's a shame as I think the Fediverse is miles better than Bluesky.

A good portion of those who left Bluesky did so for bluesky.

ATProto vs ActivityPub are very different ways to build a social network, and Bsky 's still has a fairly big asterisk, but they scale up dramatically better than Lemmy/Mastadon and aren't quite as "not-federated" as some ActivityPub promoters want to admit.

Most notably, you can move the canonical source of your account data to a server not owned by Bluesky, and access the same massive firehouse of data via a client app or last-server option of your choice. And since the banning and safety is done mostly in either that canonical source or last-server step, moving away from the crypto-friendly founding corp is enough for many.

I'm sure there's a big swath who moved to Mastadon or threads or even to Twitter. But BlueSky's still got plenty of traffic for what I want from it.

I follow this account on BS which shows a lot of users still joining: https://bsky.app/profile/bskycheck.com Or the website: https://bskycheck.com/stats.php

[–] ragica@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

There was a massive spike that fairly quickly settled down. I don't know where these people went. But things have been fairly stable post volume with but some slow new user decline over the last 6-8 months.

Bluesky got too toxic so I'm on Lemmy and Reddit now

Bluesky got too toxic

Reddit

I don’t think Reddit is any better (if at all).

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 0 points 3 days ago (1 children)

There's a group of trolls (?) on Bluesky I find particularly irksome, more so than anything similar on reddit.

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And, you don't just block them because..?

[–] morphballganon@mtgzone.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're assuming I didn't because... ?

If you thought before posting, you could have deduced that blocking happened and wasn't enough.

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

You're assuming I didn't because... ?

Because "find irksome" is present tense.

blocking happened and wasn't enough

Care to be less mysterious?

[–] disregardable@lemmy.zip -3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Threads. It's better if you want a normal social media experience (which I realize a lot of people on lemmy do not).

"No thanks" to any social media under Zuckerberg.
