USB to 9 pin rs232 serial (active), 9 pin to 25 pin serial, 25 to 9 pin serial, 9 pin serial to ps2, ps2 to AT, AT to ps2, ps2 to USB.

And 99% sure there's no USB functionality there as that last adapter is for a mouse only.

There will always be a special place in my heart for serial, where I can just jam in a paperclip and "guess around" with a voltimeter till I figure it out.

I was going to say, that's a lot of middle men to plug a USB drive into a USB port...

[–] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

I was going to say...

What is not pictured is the USB storage being recognized.

That's a lot of adapters to get from USB to USB. There's probably a metaphor in there somewhere.

What's the adapter between the 9 to 25 pin and 25 to 9 pin serial adapters? Looks more substantial than a typical gender changer, maybe one of those dip switch adapters upside down?

i would have guessed a null modem adaptor, cuz - why the hell not! but... assuming the USB to serial is a typical DTE (M) then the 9pin to 25pin would likely be (F) to (M), but the potato markings on the mystery adaptor seem to suggest M/M... so... 🤷‍♂️

your breakout box suggestion is a reasonable one.

There's probably a metaphor in there somewhere.

Bureaucrats. A million complications to do the same thing but slower.

Well, with that attitude you will definitely not have USB functionality.

But there is some non universal serial in there.

That USB to serial might have some diodes in it, preventing a magic smoke release. But after all the decades, the funny thing is the ground pins still go to ground.

I appreciate the attention to detail of matching the number of times adapt is written out to the number of adapters. Quality stuff right there.

That's funny, doesn't look like an apple device.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 37 points 1 month ago (2 children)

No, it's a flash drive, apples are redder, and round.

Looks like how my LLMs try to solve problems it creates for itself

Ticket: Why can't I copy files from my thumb drive? It's connected to the computer and a light comes on...

[–] Suffa@lemmy.wtf 14 points 1 month ago

This is why I have trouble connecting with others.

[–] Kn1ghtDigital@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

... Does... Does that adapter chain end in a USB port? For a USB thumb drive...?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago

It would appear so 😄

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

There are telegraphs with higher bandwidth than this thing.

The most i had to do was 3 adapt. And a adapt to the adapt, to get power to the adapt.
