3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. 7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

In the modern anti-transgender panic, several states have passed laws banning transgender people from restrooms consistent with their gender identity. Early bills focused primarily on K-12 schools, but the scope quickly expanded. Some states extended bans to even private colleges and universities. Others adopted sweeping “government building” prohibitions, barring transgender people from restrooms…

What happened to small government?

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 8 points 13 hours ago

Small government = "Don't tax me to do things that benefit society as a whole including minorities."

Free speech = "No one should be allowed to say anything mean to men when I spew hateful speech towards minorities."

2nd amendment = "I should be allowed to shoot minorities without repercussions."

Etc.

It's in their pants.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

Oh, no, no. You misunderstand. They want small government as in physical size, not organizational size. The smaller it is, the more places they can fit it in your daily life. /s

Obvious solution: more gender neutral bathrooms.

And if anyone complains, just argue that it’s for the children. Mothers need to be able to take their young boys into a safe bathroom space, after all.

Mens and women’s bathrooms really don’t make sense most of the time.

That is a potential solution for people looking to resolve the situation. They don't want to do that, they just want to effectively ban trans people from public spaces by making both bathroom options wrong/dangerous.

It goes beyond bathrooms. I escaped on an American passport which is close to expiring, and the US government is being a bitch about renewing our passports. They just want us to die, and most people are willing to throw us under the rug

Even more obvious solution: Let people use the bathroom.

One such expansion (Ohio, as of last year IIRC) includes not permitting new gender neutral bathrooms.

That's because the cruelty is the point.

Just don't call it gender neutral, call it "family" or "toilet room" put the sinks on the outside of the room.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 1 points 13 hours ago

even single occupant?

Mens and women’s bathrooms really don’t make sense most of the time.

For them it does, twice. It's part of the group identity and the more sperate the genders, the more gender mixing becomes a problem.

I once owned a retail establishment that was so small it only required one bathroom. And it was my job to keep it clean, and I never had a problem.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 7 points 18 hours ago

In California, I’m pretty certain that all public restrooms that were single use had to be converted to gender neutral.

[–] romanticremedy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 14 hours ago

Of course. More power to "bathroom police" would make world safer and affordable right?

[–] Eryn6844@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 18 hours ago
