“You get out your Fascism for Dummies book for the 15 things you do, and we tried to include as many of them as we could in the most artful way possible,” GIlroy tells The Hollywood Reporter. “How were we supposed to know that this clown car in Washington was going to basically use the same book that we used? So I don’t think it’s prescience so much as the sad familiarity of fascism.”

Wait is Andor over? Was it a mini-series?

Should I watch it? I have heard it good, but should I bother? Lots of things are good.

Season 2 ends where Rogue One begins

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Stop, I was close to checking the series out.

[–] core@leminal.space 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Its still most definitely worth checking out.

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 1 points 7 hours ago

To be fair to Rogue One I only watched it once.

It's very good and a show that could stand on its own even if it didn't have the Star Wars label. In fact, I wonder if more people would have given it a chance rather than initially dismiss after seeing it was a Star Wars IP after being burnt out by declining quality of Star Wars content.

They only gave it 2 Seasons. It was phenomenal. Season 2 is a bit depressing as it feels very relevant to society today.

Its so good we should all rewatch

It was supposed to be five seasons, but after the first they only allowed it one more. (If you were wondering why it feels like the pacing is 4x as fast in the second season, that's why).

I heard Tony Gilroy requested to shorten it down to 2 seasons from 5.

Originally he envisioned each season was one year Before the Battle of Yavin (BBY). So season 1 was 5BBY to season 5 being 1BBY leading up to the events of Rogue One.

After completing season 1 he realized he didn’t want to spend the next decade or more doing this show as it took so long per season.

So he altered the deal, so to speak, and shortened each season down to four 3 episode arcs that make up the twelve episodes of season 2.

I read that in an interview before season 2 aired, seemed legit reasoning to me. Would have loved to seen the full 5 seasons but man, I get it, there are probably other projects he’d like to work on over the next decade.

Almost like it was…built on hope?

Wait is Andor over? Was it a mini-series?

Yeah, it was a extremely well contained story, 2 seasons.

Should I watch it?

FUCKING YES

I believe it’s definitely worth it. I recommend it even to non-starwars fans. It stands very will on its own and is just a great political action thriller.

Its the only Star Wars TV worth watching

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Outside of nostalgia, I'd venture that it's very nearly the only SW work worth watching on its own merits, and certainly the only one worthy of that in its entirety. 🤓🥴

Unfortunately I'm already spent having watched the other stuff.

Edit: I didn't realize what community I was in when initially asked.

i've tapped out star wars last few years, but so many recommended andor that i gave in, a year late, after the first season, but it is so worth it. it's well made, well thought out, and it has a great and relevant message, i too recommend it

[–] can@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

I'll check it out if my partner has any interest. That's usually the only way I end up starting a series. Thanks.

It's pretty great, and goes right up to the start of Rogue One.

It makes the already sad Rogue One even more heartbreaking.

That said, it is a slow moving show... my wife couldn't stick with it.

That said, it is a slow moving show… my wife couldn’t stick with it.

It's slow moving in season 1, then incredibly fast moving in season 2 because they had to compress 4 seasons worth of plot to fit.
