Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Can we maybe stop linking to news outlets that are falling over themselves to pander to trump?

If the story doesn't show up anywhere other than Fox, CBS, OAN etc, then it's probably just propaganda. If it does show up elsewhere, then link to elsewhere.

I mean, a really easy way to not post links to CBS is to not go to CBS for news in the first place.

As opposed to the meticulous and detail-oriented training the previous recruits have excelled in demonstrating?

Seriously, up til now their training might have been: "If they have a face, aim for that place; Exercising their rights? That's reason for fights."

Everyone wants to ignore the two who shot Pretti and Good were both over a decade with ICE and had like 30+ years between the two of them.

It ain't a new problem.

The whole agency needs sunset.

One hundred percent agree, and I would go even farther.

Every single member needs to be prosecuted, as well as permanently blacklisted from any other form of law enforcement/security/firearms ownership for the rest of their lives. And quite honestly, this is the bare minimum at this point.

So everything is going according to plan I see.

[–] exaybachae@startrek.website 1 points 20 hours ago

Love your icon, BTW.

[–] Cosmonauticus@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That implies they're smart enough to plan anything

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 9 points 1 day ago

A bad plan is still a plan. Their only plan has been malice unfortunately.

Seeing as both the high profile murders by ICE recently were committed by ~~asshats~~ agents who had been on the job for the better part of a decade, I would be tempted to say it's not the new recruits (unless their actions are what the "defective" training is supposed to actually be - murder being a justified option)

All of these ice scum are defective

[–] Xerxos@lemmy.ml 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We trained him wrong... As a joke.

... You needed a whistleblower to tell you this?

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Considering the guys who shot Alex Pretti had about a decade and a half of experience between them… this is just saying “we know exactly what we are doing, and it’s intentional”

Yeah, I’d like to know how many are surprised by this…

[–] hcf@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wish that these lawyers who are resigning "in protest" from these shit agencies would at least gum up the works a bit on the way out.

It's not like they don't know how to bait out an easy 'constructive dismissal' case. Win or lose—make the people choosing to stay dedicate as much time and resources as possible to deal with your departure rather than enabling the fast march to total abandonment of due process by totally removing yourself as a wrench in the works.

Make them fire you for refusing to carry out illegal orders. Claim wrongful termination. Waste their time on legal proceedings, not just the court of PR.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

These agencies are short staffed on lawyers. Leaving is "gumming up the works".

ICE recruits:

“The training I was promised”:

“The training I got”:

[–] thlibos@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 day ago

Not really. I would prefer the Stormtrooper training. At least then, they would have missed Pretti and Good no matter how many times they fired at point blank range.

[–] hopesdead@startrek.website 4 points 1 day ago

This isn’t “defective” as they claim. It is exactly what they want. We already know from the Lyons memo that they are telling people to do illegal things and providing them with information they aren’t allowed to study. So in essence, ICE is making difficult for their hires to understand the job they are supposed to carry out. On top of that ICE is stupid enough to write memos detailing illegal things they are doing and reference court rules that say those things are illegal.

And this is why ICE is shooting themselves a lot more than they used to.

[–] decapitae@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

The public endangerment is probably grounds enough for self defense in places like texass and louisianass - but there's bigots enough they'll feel comfy and at home a k lux mbrs. 😓🤮
