They make 90° adapters for them

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

This is why everything goes into the receiver and only one cable goes to the tv

I made up a menu for my job and its loaded onto the TV behind the counter with a USB. The only way to reach the USB slot was to tape the USB to a pencil. The pencil is integral to the operation of that menu. Its even in the SOP now to make sure not to remove the pencil.

Never tell a man to move the TV away from the wall, it doesn’t work that way.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 13 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I have an 82 inch TV that is wall mounted.

My girlfriend can't lift one side of it so if I ever need to take it off the wall I gotta get a friend to come over to help.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

I'll come help. You lift and I'll tickle you

Look at you with a friend, a girlfriend and a big tv.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

It's a hard life but I'm working through it with my therapist.

I've learned that those thick black washers come in handy when you're assembling the mount. It adds a meaningful amount of clearance when installing/hanging a TV. I'm uncertain if all mounts come with them but they should.

Mine only came with thin white washers: what do I do?

[–] FrowingFostek@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I don't know if the plastic in the white washers are the same as the black ones so it might not provide the same sheer rating.

I would hate for the TV to buckle or compromise the wall.

Assuming it's made of the same materials it's gonna take a couple thin whites to stack up to a thick black. namean?

(This was a joke and thanks for that last line 🙂)

This is why I'm glad my TV has some inputs on the side. When wall mounting it, I ran HDMI cables for all the inputs on the back, to avoid having to go back there again.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

I came close to buying an extendable bracket just for this reason, but I had such a hard time getting the TV lifted up onto the flat bracket I figured out a way using two sticks and some tape to get it plugged in.

[–] orenj 3 points 1 day ago

I got a new desk and have painstakingly done this only to realize the cable just isnt long enough...

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

And here is a win for the plebs who decide not to wall mount a TV.

[–] LuigiMaoFrance@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I got a low TV shelf with wheels last year which has been amazing for rolling the TV wherever I need it. Absolute game changer since you can sit wherever you want and always get a good viewing angle, and all the HDMI ports and such are easily accessible.

Minimalistic ones made of steel can look pretty sleek too.

Buy an aliexpress endoscope camera.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I just google the tv model number and find an image of the inputs, then I go by feel.

Google works for me like 1/10 times I try to use it now

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Whoever comes out with the first affordable robot that can do this will make bank.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Build your mount to move away from the wall.

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 4 points 1 day ago

Ok, now the cable has to go between the tv and the mount.

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago
[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Plug in the cables before mounting the TV

[–] blackbelt352@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Sometimes you plug a new device into the TV that you got after you mounted a TV.

[–] mundane@piefed.world 5 points 1 day ago

New devices in this economy? Ok Mr money pants.

[–] LogicalDrivel@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Wait... You don't need to buy a new TV if you get a new device as well?

[–] Proprietary_Blend@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Use the cable that was installed before the TV was mounted.

[–] blackbelt352@lemmy.world 0 points 14 hours ago

You mean the one that is already in use?
