What are some good practices when reading? When I read, it takes a while. I've had times where I read a page up to 3-4 times before registering it and I don't know why. I feel like I am not doing something right.

Do you have ADHD by chance? I do and struggle with this very much when unmedicated.
Yes I do.. hmm..
I think I want to look into Marquis De Sade more.
I recently watched a man carrying things video on disturbing works and he talked about 120 days at Sodom. The portion he read aloud (a description of one of the protagonists) interested me. It basically said somrthing like "he would have had his head chopped off 100 times over had it not been for the silver he provided."
Honestly, i don't know what to make of it. Did Sade support this? Was he pointing at the hypocrisy of it all? If he was, was he saying that he ought to be executed or that everyone ought to be able to partake? Or maybe was it just part of the fantasy? I'm not sure.
Reading about all of this feels like I'm hearing about a devil. Or just a pure animal. And it fascinates me. Considering he gave the eulogy of my online namesake, I'm intrigued ever moreso. Is it more frightening for him to be saying things with much meaning or perhaps moreso if there is no meaning to what he says beyond compulsion.
Alas, i do have a weak stomach so we'll have to see how much I can get through.
Put me on the line with PressTV I need to explain why these No Kings people are liberals dawg
No Kings we just want oligarchs who don't also target white liberals who don't completely hate LGBTQ+ people or POC so I can pretend my blue guy candidate is the pinnacle of democracy. Dozens of POC killed by ICE but I draw the line at a white person being killed.
They had to change the slogan to No Tyrants or something for the UK version. You can’t make this shit up.
Didn't get an answer from my post so I'll ask here. What does it mean for North Korea to "establish a police force"? How is it different from the social security forces?
I've had some interactions (not here) where people assume that because my rhetoric on former US soldiers isn't BE level that I'm somehow sad about soldiers dying in thr middle east. Like...no, im very happy when the empire loses and dont care about active soldiers. Idk why that's an odd opinion to have for some reason
I think I understand. I try to remind myself w/ regards to that kind of thing that it's most likely not personal and not really about the people discussing the situation in the first place. People have good reason to be very pissed off right now and that may catch strays at times. I'm sure most of the anger is directed at the war criminals themselves; it's just, if it looks like someone is not agreeing with that profiling for whatever reason (even if they mean to be), it may infuriate all the more. They may not be able to yell directly at the mass murderers, but they may be able to yell at someone who looks like they're defending or downplaying the dynamic of it. Thus, catching strays. Hope that makes sense.
I'm really interested in the Basque independence movement but sometimes I see people active in said movement pose with the Flemish flag because 'FlEmIsH iNdEpEnDeNcE' and I'm like 'guys they are literal neonazis wanting an ethnostate please stop'
Also Flemish nationalism makes in no way sense. There is 0 effort from the Belgian government to oppress Flemish people. It is by far the biggest demographic group with the most spoken language. They have their own government. They are free to teach Flemish history, language and whatnot.
Then you have the historical aspect of it. I'd say the movement is strongest in the provinces of East and West Flanders. Which are historically speaking Flanders. But then you have places like the province of Antwerp, where I live, and you also have these people supporting it. Except historically speaking Antwerp, Flemish Brabant and Brussels have been part of the Duchy of Brabant. Same with Limburg but with the Duchy of Limburg.
The movement makes at least some sense in the Lille region of France, which is historically speaking Flanders. But even there it is hijacked by right wing nationalism.
what's the deal with vietnam and israel? actually, what's the deal with vietnam in general?
If you have questions regarding Vietnam, you can ask several comrades that have knowledge from there such @kredditacc@lemmygrad.ml and @traxanh@hexbear.net .
As for your comments here, trading is not the same as giving support. Never fall for the lie of straying away from the main culprits of keeping the Zionist entity alive which is the West.

As for the rest, be extremely careful from where you get your news from. Right now, there is a strong wave of fake news and psyops trying to destabilise every single country that I am keeping tabs on. Western news are very unreliable and untrustworthy regarding countries that are not aligned or have a different system from liberalism. As an example, check how the Western media slandered the Cuban Flotilla. This type of trashy and insidious reporting is repeating everywhere including in the Sahel countries as Traore warned and even in Asia.
Always crosscheck your sources with the local ones and study how Psyop works.
Beside that, check the community of Vietnam for updates regarding the country if you are really interested -> https://lemmygrad.ml/c/vietnam
What are we refurring to here?
i hear vietnam is really in with israel. endorsing them and trading weapons with them and whatnot. i also hear that they censor pro-israel content so idk how those two things gel. i also hear vietnam is evicting some farmers in favor of imperial capital or something? my recollection is really fuzzy and obviously i don't know anything about vietnam to begin with which is why im asking and why i didn't want to say things i only half-remember.
The Vietnamese government and establishments don't actively censor pro-Israel content, neither do they actively censor anti-Israel content. It's just that the kinds of (Vietnamese-speaking) people who are pro-Israel are usually also pro-West, pro-Trump, reactionary, anti-communist, and anti-Vietnam. Most Vietnamese hate these kinds of people. But most of these anti-Vietnam people also live in the West so we can't really do anything about them.
I would also caution you against collecting news about Vietnam from hearsays and tabloids on social media (such as Twitter/X or Reddit). If you really care, do research carefully. Don't take words as face value.
this is a really good point. i mostly get my information on AES states from lemmygrad these days. but ultimately i'm starting to think that this is an internet forum with all the limitations of an internet forum. the thing about the farmers i got from a post on here a couple months ago. i think it was in /c/vietnam. do you remember that or am i just speaking out of my ass here?
You are referring to this, I believe?
DISCLAIMER: This is not my area of expertise. I also know very little about it.
There's a few things you'll need to keep in minds:
-
Disputes regarding land compensation rates happen for every big project and every mega project. It is expected of the people, the government, and the business to negotiate.
-
The government compensate the price of land according to the current value for agriculture lands, not the projected/speculated value. The Hưng Yên project is no different.
-
Legally speaking, lands cannot be owned by individuals or households in Vietnam. Instead, they got Land Use Rights (quyền sử dụng đất).
-
Government reclaiming lands doesn't mean that the farmers become jobless or be stripped of livelihood. The government is expected to have plan for them. The government must have policies to ensure their immediate survival, their long term education, their job training. These people are given preferential treatment when taking a loan from state-own banks.
-
I faintly remember from my childhood, watching TV, usually when a big project is announced, the real-estate brokers (cò đất) would buy lands from the farmers and inflate the prices. This caused headaches for the government. I don't know if this is still a problem in the present day. But since the news rarely talk about it now, I assume it's no longer a problem.
-
Whenever land reclamation happens, predictability, there shall be narratives from the liberals and the reactionaries, biased and one-sided at best, and outright alarmist and false at worst, trying to paint the Vietnamese government as oppressor. Do not be deceived by them.
Now, as for the specifics, since my knowledge about this subject is not good, I shall refrain from giving you answers. I know this may be disappointing, but I don't like to speak on things I know nothing about. I'm sorry.
But I can point you to other people who might be more interested in providing you information:
- @genHCM on Twitter/X
- @MammothMk4 on Twitter/X
- @darrion_nguyen on Twitter/X
@genHCM in particular did mention the Hưng Yên project at least once, IIRC.
DISCLAIMER: I don't personally know any of them. I just saw that they wrote a lot. Basically, I vibe-recommended them to you. If they later turn out to be reactionaries or stupid, don't lump me into them.
Who said this to you 👁️🗨️
EDIT: this isn't a threat, I am taking things seriously and engaging in a long-term war of education. Phase Two has inspired me so much I'm suddenly capable of patience. I'm just curious because these claims all ultimately lead back to western economics premises, and tracing that will be illustrative.
it's just various things i've absorbed through osmosis in here. snippets of hexbear and lemmygrad conversations where i didn't really understand the full context of what was being said.
I messed up your @mention so here take this and use it as a weapon: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/11164630

My laptop screen broke and now I had to get a new laptop. My laptop was 8 years old already so it's good that I finally had a reason to buy one.

Having a bit of beef with the party. Idk why I do this but I have this tendency to let things stack up until I just orbital nuke my relationships with people. It's not my best trait admittedly.
tendency to let things stack up until I just orbital nuke my relationships with people
This is a common autism trait. Years of masking and coping with with our sensitivities makes us have a high external annoyance threshold but when we reach that threshold we snap. Often we don't talk about what bothers us because we are bothered by a lot of things. We have been trained to just put up with annoyances because other people don't feel them so acutely.
So when someone does something annoying we don't say anything we just try to find ways of dealing with it because we have been taught that everything that bugs us is our fault. Eventually our inability to cope with annoyances without speaking about them causes us to bring up all the problems at once and often we give up on the relationship all together.

Never thought I'd see something like this in the wild (because it's painfully relatable).
I attribute some of it to attachment issues in my case, that some part of me wants to distance myself because of anxiety no matter how it's going, so if I also have an excuse to distance myself, my brain latches onto that hard. But sometimes I do have legit issues too. Sometimes even, I'm flummoxed that others are seemingly ignoring issues that I consider a problem and are sticking around regardless.
I guess the healthy thing would be to bring things up immediately and try to resolve them before resentment builds. But sometimes that's hard to do in the moment.
Are you maybe just giving too much grace? I do that thing where i basically accept it when someone's behaviour makes sense given their circumstances, but it is still negatively affecting me and eventually they do something a bit too far and can no longer "hide" behind material reality having shaped that behaviour. Then the pent up annoyedness and the valid reaction to that situation gets released at once.
Of course they are not actually hiding or excusing their behaviour, but that's the word that came to me.
i've been on a AAA games binge, damn they don't make em like they used to. fuck open world games, give me back linear but detailed set pieces.
