Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

TSA employees have been working without pay during a partial shutdown of DHS over demands to reform immigration enforcement.

More than 400 Transportation Security Administration workers have quit since a partial government shutdown that began on Feb. 14 left them working without pay, the Department of Homeland Security said.

Funding was shut off to DHS over demands by Democrats for reforms at Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection following alleged abuses and the fatal shootings of two U.S. citizens by federal agents in Minneapolis earlier this year.

There has also been a national callout rate of 10% at TSA on more than half the days of the last week, Lauren Bis, acting assistant secretary for public affairs at DHS, said Saturday in response to questions.

is it really quitting if your employer stops paying you?

[–] hamid@crazypeople.online 52 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Funny how no other country either shuts down their government on a regular basis or needs the level of security theater of the TSA. Shit hole country.

its a convenient weapon created by the go, which the DEMs enabled. i think other countries would have a re-election of the govt at this point, US has no such mechanism, thats why it continues to spiral downward to oblivion.

What a poorly worded article by NBC yet again. They refuse to state the truth because trump will sick his group of criminals on them, we don't have free press anymore.

Also, who would want to work for a broke employer anyway? We are $39 TRILLION in debt thanks mostly to Donald Trump raising it $1 trillion every 4 months.

[–] 800XL@lemmy.world 21 points 5 days ago

I don't know about you, but I am so fucking sick of winning.

[–] modus@lemmy.world 39 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I really don't understand why any of them are showing up for work at all.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 5 days ago (2 children)

they convinced them theyw ill get back pay? most already quit by now,

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

Absolutely, sunk cost fallacy.

You're on a contract that fucks up all the time. Historically, you've always gotten paid eventually. You wait it out a week, two, you could say screw it and walk then, but now it's well, if I walk, i won't get x dollars, let's just wait it out a little. Vicious cycle.

We've gotta get those numbers up!

Only thing better than a strike is a mass exodus.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago (6 children)

Except now we have ICE in the airports.
Winning?

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Eh. I support ICE harassing people with some degree of resources and influence for a change.

[–] BanaramaClamcrotch@lemmy.zip 6 points 5 days ago

“Why would Obama do this?!”

[–] MuskyMelon@lemmy.world 25 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Working this hated job and hoping to maybe get paid is fucked up on so many levels.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Good. We really don't need any security theater anyway

[–] BlameTheAntifa@lemmy.world 20 points 6 days ago

Unfortunately you continue to get security theater, but with an exponential increase in racism.

[–] Darleys_Brew@lemmy.ml 8 points 6 days ago

Well…it does stand for Theatre Security Agency.

I'm sure airlines will be thrilled about having their customers kidnapped by ICE during security checks. Because that's how "illegals" sneak into the country, right? By buying an airline ticket and FLYING IN. Just think of the headlines.

[–] Angrydeuce@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago

My favorite TSA experience was how my nephew was on a no fly list and we didnt find this out until we waited through two hours in line.

My nephews age at the time? 6 months old. The No Fly order was older than he was.

Lots of critical thinking going on with that lot, lemme tell you.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago (7 children)

Because that’s how “illegals” sneak into the country, right?

Actually, yes. 40% of undocumented immigrants came in legally (many on planes) and simply overstayed their visa.

Gladly let the door kick them on the way out. Heard nothing but awful power tripping stories about them.

ICE is godawful and obviously worse. Both being gone would be great of course.

So the US is now stuck with ICE agents everywhere until they get DOGEd out? No real freedom of movement anymore and I imagine these guys are worse than cops. I anticipate they'll make gangs out of themselves cause they're so large and unchecked

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 6 points 6 days ago

I anticipate they’ll make gangs out of themselves cause they’re so large and unchecked

Cops already do this

That is a paramilitary gang. Those are not law enforcement. They don't follow laws.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 8 points 6 days ago

We're great now, right?

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

Good for them.
