Good read about Hypervisor
Hypervisor Guide

A lot of digital ink has been spilled about these hypervisor bypasses, they do involve disabling some security features last I knew, but if you've been out of the loop maybe this is worth seeing or knowing about. Also there's a new denuvo cracker releasing more proper cracks. Don't have a link to them on hand though.

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

No, they don't work on linux

Damn, they were absolutely cranking out the 2024 Denuvo games. Looks like 2025 was a bit more of a challenge for them.

still not sold on HV cracks personally (it's new stuff to me and i don't understand it so it's scary etc) but it's really cool to see denuvo get fucked

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Sounds like a lot of trouble to play some games.

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

to be fair, so is earning a wage, waiting for that wage to be deposited in your bank account and using that money to purchase games

[–] Formerlyfarman@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

You then have to register in some internet site, fill a form, give them your creditcard info, that step alone is more troublesome than just searching for the cracked file and downloading. No logins, no forms to fill,no bullshit.

right? going into my bios and this or that for mid ass crimson desert or something idk pass personally

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You don't actually have to go into bios. The prerequisite is just to run an open source command line script.

to turn on virtualization i did, was a little hidden too

I do understand it a little bit and it scares me.

It's such a sketchy layer to run random software from the net that even if we trust fitgirl and her hypervisor engine, as a general development for the scene I don't like it and I think once people get used to this, there's going to be lots of pwnage and it is a complete fucking nightmare to deal with a hypervisor rooted box.

[–] Inui@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

There was a lot of discussion between the hypervisor method dev, fitgirl, and the mods of cs.rin.ru which is where a lot of these things get posted first now before private trackers. They agreed to certain warnings and were able to reduce the number of security features needing to be disabled, but is still so much more sketch than running a .exe that might be a Trojan back in the day. And none of them work on Linux. So for me, none of this shit counts or is worth it at all.

As OP mentioned, voices38 is the new person who just finished cracking all the 2024 denuvo games and moved onto 2025. They're the true torch bearer.

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago

Intentionally installing the rootkit that comes with your warez.

[–] 21Gramsci@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Do you know if there's a writeup anywhere about how these HV cracks work?

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

There are two links in the original post above and they both do what you ask. The second link is a summary of a longer, more detailed post which Fitgirl links to there.

[–] CharlieTheOctopus@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Im going to be a rotten shriveled husk before RE9 gets cracked, I want that game so bad but $70 price tag is like rat poison sprinkled on a cake :(

[–] take_five_moments@hexbear.net 1 points 23 hours ago

you can play it with the HV method mentioned

[–] JustSo@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Be super wary executing shit at a hypervisor layer. At the moment it is very hard to inspect and interrogate anything running there and it can be a total write off for your motherboard and potentially some other peripherals if you get a particularly nasty piece of software in there.

THAT BEING SAID THIS IS REALLY COOL.

I don't want to fear monger in general because this is neat as hell and I love to see big copy protection schemes fall.

Also like, yea it's scary and sketchy (and I'm not going) to run bypass tools on my hypervisor but it's still a very cool project from a technical and proof of concept standpoint.

With you 100%, I'm not sure I'll ever be bothered enough to fuck around with this hypervisor stuff to play like, NBA 2K26, but it's extremely exciting to me that Denuvo is getting more holes poked into it. I felt a sort of impotent anger over fellow pirates singing the 'age of piracy is over!!' because Denuvo came out on like, 2% of released games that year.

Importantly, for me, it represents a return to a baseline in piracy. The ability to access art regardless of your disposable income. That baseline is coming back, baby!

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Wait holy shit there is a way around Denuvo again? I completely missed that. Even if it is an imperfect solution, it is still MASSIVE news.

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Also, it is important to note that historically, fitgirl and other repackers are NOT the ones actually cracking games. They just repack games that have already been cracked. So regardless of fitgirl herself being trustworthy, you have to also trust whatever scene group/hacker is doing the crack.

One thing that is good about Dodi and Fitgirl is that there is such a wide install base that it would become apparent pretty quickly if they had been compromised.

No Final Fantasy Tactics

It was such a weird thing to even put denuvo in this and the sadness still continue

[–] Liketearsinrain@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 day ago

Be wary of hypervisor cracks. Some of these use modified versions of open source hypervisors to my knowledge. Here is a (fairly technical) explanation of how these work for those interested https://momo5502.com/posts/2025-10-03-reverse-engineering-denuvo-in-hogwarts-legacy/

[–] tombruzzo@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago

Thank you, Fitgirl. I just downloaded your Doom Eternal repack because of current day stupid and confusing purchasing options and Steam bugs that won't let me play or buy the main campaign. Installation is so much easier than the last time I played a game this way and runs great on linux

[–] KnilAdlez@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I keep seeing a car with a licence plate that says 'fitgirl' with an air freshener with an obscene meme on it, and I always wonder if it's that fitgirl.

[–] BattleshipPokemon@hexbear.net 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I will become a gamer again temporarily maybe

[–] Omegamint@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

That’s awesome. Kinda making a weird era where it might be necessary to have a machine that you dedicate to the cracked games if you’re really worried. I actually mostly use a beefy android tablet now so it’s kinda tempting, but honestly my pc need upgrades and I can’t afford that right now anyways
