Not enough, I'm disappointed tbh. I'll unblock them when they man up and actually learn how to properly flood a site with B E A N S

[-] claymedia@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Why’d ya spill yer beans?

[-] Jessica@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 year ago

If your comment gets 2 upvotes, you can never mention beans again

[-] krimson@feddit.nl 30 points 1 year ago

I just blocked cats. I like cats. But there’s a gazillion of cats on my feed all of a sudden.

Cats.

Well he's just magnificent! Please tell this cat I love them.

I'm the same. I also block individuals who post the same thing in like 6 different subs. Yes those posts can tech ically belong in 6 different subs, but if I see more then 2 I just don't care and it's instant block from me.

You know a website is making it when there's pussy, and pussy. We need more balance on the pussies tho.

Thank you! Shitpost was the first one to go. If I never see another bean in my life it will be too soon.

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 11 points 1 year ago

But beans are really a great nutritious food. Cheap too!

It won't always be beans, though it may be a bit.

[-] kabe@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

It will always be shit, however.

[-] Badass_panda@lemmy.fmhy.ml 18 points 1 year ago

Oh I'm blocking 196 for sure

Rule

[-] Morcyphr@lemmy.one 7 points 1 year ago

I had to do that too. I don't really hate it, but it's like every other post on All. Annoying.

[-] pulaskiwasright@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

That’s my problem too. I don’t mind memes, shitposts, 196 generally. At least not until the beans. But collectively it feels like they take up 80% of All. I wish I could just reduce their frequency somehow.

[-] razorwiregoatlick@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

It would be cool if there was a way to block without having to visit a site like massivecock@lemmynsfw.com first.

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 6 points 1 year ago

Turn off NSFW in your user profile first. But you're right.

[-] ollie@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

I wish there was difference between porn nsfw and just nsfw tho

Finally, no more beans 🫘 ☺️

E: We probably want a "Mute Community" option as well. One that removes that community's content from All, but doesn't remove access from the community if you search for it or go to it directly. That way we can look at 🫘 when we want to, yet not see them displacing everything else in All.

[-] MomSpaghetti@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Is there a way to block an entire instance without having to manually block all of it's communities?

I don't want to disable NSFW in my user profile.

It would be nice if you could block entire instances. I once had my feed fill up with a bunch of sports posts with exactly 0 activity on them.

[-] Hypersapien@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I do that instead of subscribing to communities.

So far I've mostly just blocked sports related communities. Also Apple.

[-] Arayvenn@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 year ago

Thank goodness. The shit post communities are by far the most popular right now.

[-] DankMemeMachine@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Finally, much less beans...

[-] Khazram@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

For WefWef users there isn’t a block button, however, switch to Memmy or Mlem and block them through that and it will also block in WefWef. Just wanted to throw that out there.

[-] skitlex@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 year ago

Good suggestion. I’ll add the feature tomorrow as a PR.

Fedi users 🤝 blocking shitposting communities

[-] oryx@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Jerboa on Android has the option to block communities directly from the post on your feed. Just tap the three dots and block it. Lets you block furry porn without having to see any of it.

[-] holeydood3@midwest.social 7 points 1 year ago

Is there any way to block an entire server that's federated to the one you have an account on? I don't want to individually block every single community.

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No, your admin could defederate them but that effects everyone

A lot of people have requested this feature though, so it may come.

[-] Ashiette@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 1 year ago

It would be great... I'm tired of pawb.social and yiffit.net.

To each its own, but furry and furry porn are not for me.

Thanks for the response!

I think I might be done with lemmy until that's introduced. I want to be a part of the midwest.social community on here, but I don't want to block new porn communities every day as their volume of votes tends to dominate the feed.

And I don't want to set it to subscribed communities only, because then I won't find new communities I'll actually enjoy and engage with. I think there's a lot of potential with these federated communities, but it's just not mature enough for user controls yet.

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

As an FYI you you go to your profile settings on your instance's site, you can turn off NSFW and you won't see any of that.

You could also sign up to an instance that blocks the porn one, and still participate in Midwest.social communities

[-] holeydood3@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

It's a decent bandaid, but I don't want to block all NSFW content, I just want better controls around it so I'm not fighting an onslaught of creative new community names around anal whenever I open the site or an app.

I could indeed join another instance, but figuring out which instances are federated to which other instances is a bit of a slog from a user perspective unless there's a big searchable graph available somewhere (which is entirely possible, I'm still very ignorant).

And who knows, maybe the apps will get better and be able to grab a local-only feed for each instance you have an account on and can patch together a feed from them all mixed together, and that would get me close to a workable solution for the long run.

[-] bdonvr@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 year ago

I suppose you could also sit down and subscribe to every community you want. Then used the subscribed feed. Kinda kills discovery for new communities though

[-] ex0dus 7 points 1 year ago

Is there anyway to block instances without defederating? If not I'd like to see that as an option

[-] SINapps@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

goodbye the donald.

[-] Cryst@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

Thanks. As much as I can appreciate gonewild once in awhile I don't need it appearing in my all feed.

Is there a way to review what you've blocked and/or unblock a community?

I've looked and if it's there, I can't see it.

[-] errata@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

Under settings there's a tab for blocks at the top and it has a list and you can manage them there. At least there is on lemm.ee, but I'd assume all lemmy sites have it.

[-] zgasma 3 points 1 year ago

Found it, thanks! I also tried it in memmy, and I don't think it's there yet.

[-] arin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Much easier on Connnect for lemmy app on android, you just click the [...] and select block community from the title of the post

[-] FuckSpez@lemmy.one 4 points 1 year ago

Good. Bye bye ich_lel

[-] Kushia@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

I started getting dicks for some reason but blocking those communities fixed it. I wish there was a way to have to opt into getting dicks instead.

The naming of this button is too rough, IMO. And it could have been placed in the dropdown menu for each post. kthnx.
