Eh, if you can't find reasons to stay alive, there's always spite.

The universe might be out to get me, but at least I'll go down fighting.

Or, as someone much more versed in words put it:

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Eh, if you can’t find reasons to stay alive, there’s always spite.

Spite is great until it isn't. Then it shatters and won't support weight again.

[–] HrabiaVulpes@europe.pub 2 points 1 day ago

Poland existed out of spite since over a thousand years. Sure, sometimes spite dwindled and they got conquered, but that was just a new reason for more spite!

It’s been a shitshow from over a decade

Me (I've been depressed for more than half my time on this earth):

Tap for spoilerIt's a good message tho don't take this as a attack I'm just coping lmao

Thx Miles.

You’ll get Joulian just yet.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

But for how long before it's shit again?

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

99.99+% of the time with depression

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 36 points 2 days ago (3 children)

It's so damn hard though. It feels like everyone with money and power is deeply inspired by every distopian novel or movie in existence

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 8 points 2 days ago

When I'm feeling extra bad I like to recall the videos of Charlie Kirk and Brian Thompson to remind me that sometimes good things do happen.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

And things are likely to get really shitty but we aren't going extinct and the future needs people that give a damn.

It helps to remember that you are merely a number on a spreadsheet with free will. Fuck that spreadsheet up.

The first 14 minutes of Brazil are inspiration

Kinda hard under capitalism

[–] fireweed@lemmy.world 25 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I'm not sure if Suffering O'Brien is necessarily the best choice for this meme, because it kinda implies that the moment things start looking up, a simulated lifetime of prison trauma is waiting around the next corner...

[–] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He also has a loving wife and two kids. He loves his job (most days) and seems genuinely fulfilled in life.

[–] fireweed@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah that's likely because DS9 is, at its core, an episodic series. If my life mostly reset every Monday, that would make things quite a bit more tolerable.

[–] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sunday nights would certainly become interesting if everyone knew things go back to 1 on Monday.

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 3 points 2 days ago

Everyone can now participate in Sunday Funday: The Purge Edition.

[–] Zorque@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

He is the poster child for that exact reason. He keeps getting the shit end of the stick... but he keeps going because he has an awesome support system that makes everything better.

It is an eternal meme. A trope. The Bibble has Job. Star Trek has Miles. Job lost his family and children to gamblor and miles loses them to the pah wraiths and a time hole. The parallelograms are there, it's in revelations people.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

because it kinda implies that the moment things start looking up, a simulated lifetime of prison trauma is waiting around the next corner...

That feels about right.

[–] tensorpudding@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Despite everything that has happened, O'Brien has worked through it with counseling and the support of his family and friends. Something to aspire to if you get your fair share of hardships too.

[–] fireweed@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Is the greatest advancement in Star Trek FTL travel? Teleporters? Replicators? No, it's that their therapists are available, affordable, and effective.

When observed, happiness only comes in particles

No one who consumes malort is happy.

[–] SSETranquility@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Right up until that Malort makes it past the gums. Or the writers get their hands on him.

[–] Couldbealeotard@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

How does one get malort outside of the US?

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Burn some rubber bands and used ~~adhesive bandages~~ condoms and mix them with some vodka and a little bit of potpourri.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I really need this as a bookmark

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I found it just sitting on ground outside. Best day of my life.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Best day OUR lives, comrade.

You can take high quality photos of this for the rest of the fediverse and all, become our new God. I've been looking for a new Nicole/violet

My phone is 12 years old, that picture is the best I can do. Also, godhood is not my bag, I struggle with taking a compliment, being a god would fucking wreck me.

I’ll try to get a better picture of it, though.

[–] kionay@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

as far as BeeGees covers goes this one is a bit unorthodox but I can get behind it

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The shortest summary of a Subnautica playthrough

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Fuck I gotta finish my vanity playthrough. I'm building fancy bases this time, except I'm playing no man's sky instead right now

[–] ThePyroPython@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I don't think I can.

All I see on the horizon is, at best, eco-fascism and at worst the slow crumbling of humanity before nuclear annihilation.

Why continue to have eyes if all I can see is destruction? Why continue to have ears if all I can hear is hatred? Why continue to have a mouth if the only words I can speak is righteous anger and cries of despair?

The glimmers of happiness get fewer and further between as life goes on. I just yearn for the long sleep; it feels like it'd be peaceful, unburdened, my metaphorical shoulders fucking hurt and I'm tired.

[–] dangling_cat@piefed.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago

Your fulfillment is in your local spacetime. You can just focus on your friends, your local communities. Make their lives better.

[–] baines@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

don’t worry bro, wet bulb temps will save us

HAPPINESS COMES IN WAVES

So do sharks.

...and mermaids
