A Boring Dystopia

The world we live in isn't just dystopic, it isn't just stupid, trying to describe all the ways it sucks just makes for a really boring story.

Jeff Bezos is so much more boring, lame and devoid of personality than a Bond Villain though it physically hurts my brain to try to relate the two in my head.

Because the double of 0 it's still 0, tax those bastards

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 2 points 13 hours ago

Double 0. In front of a bond-villain-style rocket.

[–] harsh3466@lemmy.ml 12 points 1 day ago

2 x 0 = 0

So yeah. Of course it won't. All those loopholes and tax shelters they've paid to have written into the tax code need to be closed. They need to be taxed out of existence (as in billionaires shouldn't exist)

[–] MehBlah@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Nothing times two is nothing.

How about triple? Still no? 4x, 5x, 100x. Let’s find out when it starts helping people.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 4 points 22 hours ago

Only one way to find out - whaddya say we give it a try, Jeff?

[–] laz@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago

Yes doubling it won't help it needs to be 33% flat for him and Amazon which is probably more than 5 times

[–] CaptMurica@beehaw.org 4 points 1 day ago

They should double his taxes and then double them again and again and again and again. Billionaires should not exist.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmings.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

So what you're saying is that we should be taking more, a LOT more? We should keep taking until it does help somebody?

I can get down with that.

[–] Clutter@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

Which is why we need to quintuple it. And keep doubling it from there until morale has improved globally.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Tax billionaires on the assets they control, till they're millionaires.

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 1 points 10 hours ago

Hmmm, maybe make into a gameshow and call it "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire 2"

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

I'd venture that setting his effective rate to the same as everybody else's would make the amount a lot more than double

Nobody wants to double thentaxes on the uber wealthy. We want way way more than double. Personally, I like 100% on "wealth"/"net worth" over 10 million dollars.

[–] isles@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

After you hit $1 billion, just a total reset to 0. They're all pretty confident they can get there again easily, so shouldn't really be a problem. Enjoy your little spotlight in Forbes.

[–] regedit@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

I like Leeja Miller's line, taxes were the compromise.

[–] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Financial obesity is an existential threat to any society that tolerates it, and needs to cease being celebrated, rewarded, and positioned as an aspirational goal.

Corporations are the only ‘persons’ which should be subjected to capital punishment, but billionaires should be euthanised through taxation.

[–] toomanypancakes@crazypeople.online 111 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I agree with Bezos here. We should be taxing him dramatically more than double of what he's currently paying.

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Double nothing is still nothing

Bezos paying any tax at all would be an improvement

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I think what he's referring to is that even if you taxed him more right now, that money would just go to funding the trump admin, bombs, and ICE...

Just kidding, I don't think he actually cares about those things.

You know, you had me there for a second

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

I almost left off the last sentence but then I remembered satire doesn't always transfer well over text

two options, jackass

1000003720

or

1000003721

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Double it AND enforce it too. Problem solved.

I approve of this message. Rich people should not exist and the state should be run by the workers and not have any leader ruling with an iron fist. Letting one person make all the decisions always ends in chaos, tbh.

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

Use the monocle to start the fire!

[–] Smeagol666@mander.xyz 17 points 2 days ago

Or we could tax him at 75% and he'd still be filthy rich. Fuck these rich assholes.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

He is just saying he pays no taxes guys. Hands out the pitchforks

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It would be a massive benefit to all of us even if we burned all of his money in a dumpster rather than redistributing it.

Having billionaires who can buy elections or monopolize markets is inherently destabilizing to society. His dragon horde was captured by exploitation, and it should be returned to the people who actually earned it.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why not then, as it won’t harm him either?

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago
[–] Gsus4@mander.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

The only way that is true is if he pays none...

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 day ago

You sure? Let's try it!

[–] mrmaplebar@fedia.io 22 points 2 days ago

Which is why we need a billionaire wealth tax too, and to close tax loopholes that allow the rich to pay close to nothing.

[–] fraksken@infosec.pub 15 points 2 days ago
[–] wesker 16 points 2 days ago

"So please don't."

[–] pHr34kY@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Doubling his taxes won't do much.

Taxing him at 50% will.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 13 points 2 days ago

Well… under the current administration, one could argue that he’s right.
