Source: it's day 3 of 10 of vacation with a bunch of friends, and we are at a waffle house in a red state until we figure out where to go next

Unspecified 'safety violations' which they categorically refuse to share with us, so basically we've been robbed at gunpoint by airbnb and a landlord

Airbnb support is the one who told us to get out host has been ghosting us for 2 days, and airbnb support is just siding with them and refusing to give us information

Unrelated, the maoist uprising against the landlords was the largest and most comprehensive in history

Edit: When I posted this I expected most of the comments to be razzing on landlords but most comments have just been folks giving advice and trying to help, y'all really are so sweet Care-Comrade

All is well we are fine and the situation is going to be resolved dw about that

That said roast landlords more, people! (And me too for using treats that's fine too)

well that sucks ass

i've never stayed in an airbnb because the whole idea is just so fucking weird to me.. i just can't believe that's a thing.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 37 points 10 hours ago

This old ass meme applies:

Reminder that Airbnb hosts are frequently caught having hidden cameras. I remember there was a study showing that a significant amount of hosts have them landlord-spotted

[–] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 17 points 11 hours ago

Wtf at least pay me for the adult entertainment.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 31 points 13 hours ago

Well I hope they enjoyed watching me bounce my fat ass

If you paid with credit/debit card you might be able to do a chargeback for goods not received, and at least get your money back.

I think you’d basically call the CC company customer service and tell them to reverse the charges and then they deal with Airbnb about it.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 20 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Thanks comrade I appreciate it :)

[–] Carcharodonna@hexbear.net 11 points 11 hours ago

No problem. Hope it works! I’ve used chargebacks in the past to claw money back from scummy companies so fingers crossed.

Living in an unjust world makes for a bottomless well of righteous anger, which is why you expect the razz, but we’re hating for love’s sake, so we’re sweet. cuddle

Also forgot to mention that the place flooded with poo water when their sump failed and they made us wallow for 24 hours before they did anything (and then immediately followed up with all this bs despite the plumbers saying it was their fault not ours)

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 29 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

could this be the safety violation in question? staying in a place with sewage water damage is not good

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 29 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

If it was, airbnb refusing to tell us what the safety violation was due to "security concerns" is absolutely hilarious

I wouldn't be surprised tbh

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 33 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

It could be liability concerns. If I admit to you that I made you sleep near sewage, and the plumbing already told me it was my fuck up with the sewage system, then I'd be keeping my mouth shut so as to not give you grounds for a lawsuit.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 27 points 13 hours ago

Great plan by them to piss all of us off a HUGE amount and incite us to report issues like that

[–] microfiche@hexbear.net 43 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

Was a traditional hotel not an option? I'm going to refrain from my usual opinion about Airbnb and those who use it. It will be heavily implied, however.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 32 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (3 children)

Friends like shootings guns, in rural areas airbnb is a great option (or was for years until this) for target shooting off the deck etc (which is always part of the application process we always get it approved before anything else, all legal and kosher)

Not really viable through a hotel, plus honestly the price for 13 people in a hotel comparatively is not even close

If it was a trip planned by me we would just stay home and not work for the 10 days and smoke weed and watch movies, but the shooting and isolation in nature are the selling points in the group

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 50 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

I guess the guns were a problem maybe?

If y'all could pretend to be right wingers and cry bully over being discriminated against this could launch your million dollar gofundme grift

This is a great idea, you could collect money from both the lawsuit against airbnb, and crowd source the lawsuit, and then you could grift right wingers for a lot of money.

Then you could use the funds to organize a strong leftist movement amongst your friends.

The dream would be to retire and use your time to change build community and lay the groundwork for changing this wretched world.

[–] restless@hexbear.net 23 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

If there were people shooting off of the deck, that seems like it could qualify as a safety violation (unless that's explicitly listed as an allowed thing to do on the property or you checked in with the owner first)

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 30 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Naw it was discussed first thing when we were looking at thr listing originally, that's a requirement for this group of dweebs. and they have signed waivers from us it's all kosher so if it's that it's on them not us

[–] PolarKraken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 6 hours ago

...can I come to ur next fiasco

[–] microfiche@hexbear.net 10 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

the treats must flow comrade.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 15 points 14 hours ago

Tbh/f it's not like hotels are an ethical choice either.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 20 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

What's the location of this place?

I think the owner ought to end up with more "proof" of safety violations.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 21 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, the timing isn't optimal, but honestly, there really ought to be an untraceable voicing of discontent to landlords like this, not just fantasizing about something that is not in the cards for this age.

No one's asking you to do anything, but we do want an end to passive suffering at the hands of these abusers.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 16 points 13 hours ago

No I know haha, and I'm with you

[–] Self_Sealing_Stem_Bolt@hexbear.net 28 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Can you issue a charge back on your credit card?

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 33 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

That's the plan, which will mean we'll be banned from airbnb (not that we're ever planning to use it ever again anyway after this)

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 35 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Make sure you have proof that the landlord ghosted you, all documentation of your conversations with support, etc. The CC company won't automatically take your side, I know from experience.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 22 points 14 hours ago

Yeah no sweat there we've been documenting everything, photos on the way out, all that shit

Thanks though comrade :)

[–] Carl@hexbear.net 24 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Have you gotten a message from AirBnB support yet? If they can't prove you actually violated a safety rule you should be able to get a refund.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 28 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Theyre the ones who told us it was canceled the host has ghosted us for 2 days, and support refuses to say what the 'safety violation' is just that there was one(???!?!?)

So we can't prove it didn't happen cause they won't tell us what we have to prove didn't happen

It's absolutely just this landlord trying to rob us

[–] none@hexbear.net 7 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Somebody said "free Palestine"

[–] Philosoraptor@hexbear.net 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

"I wonder if there's anywhere around here with free parking?"

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 17 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Hotels.com also has airbnb style places.

But they also removed my negative review of a place even though it was the most tame negative review ever, so no help there.

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 4 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Oh no, they didn't check Trivago. You gotta check Trivago. Trivago.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

what a stupid name that is.. like.. how do you come up with the dumbest portmantaeu ever?

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

It's actually a German name, Trottel Varpiss Dich Gottverdammt. The venture capitalists at Expedia don't speak any German, but it makes money so it's obviously nothing bad.

[–] peeonyou@hexbear.net 1 points 4 hours ago
