You might want to check what the Netherlands looked like in 1837, because it looks nothing like what you have here.

The Netherlands used to be a swamp. It still is, but it used to too.

Mistral has ai data center near paris and in sweden somewhere. I assume close to stockholm

The map is ony showing data centers built before 1837

[–] tourist@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

how many were built by 1838

AI data center or regular data center with some GPU compute?

[–] nightwatch_admin@lemmy.world 30 points 2 days ago

Grey is a datacenter, black is no data center.

I wish this to be true, but in Netherlands there should be at least one and in Malaga municipality (Andalucia-south spain) they have approved the construction for one data center...

I think you missed that part πŸ˜‰

Not for long lol https://commission.europa.eu/topics/competitiveness/ai-continent_en

Our plan will bring the necessary elements together to help European businesses excel in AI by setting up at least 19 AI factories across Europe, [...] establishing up to 5 AI gigafactories, large-scale facilities with massive computing power and data centres.

Let me know when they also finished the time machine, so I know that I have to update my post

What's an ai gigafactory lmao

[–] inlandempire@jlai.lu 3 points 1 day ago

Better than betafactories but worse than sigmafactories

Is that a dick?

Eh. I’m not sure if we have any data centres dedicated specifically for training and running LLMs, but we do have data centres that do both.

[–] lemongarlic@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Europe definitely has those too

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago (2 children)

There is a real difference in the type of hardware that gets used in an AI data centre; it's not a trivial or pedantic distinction.

[–] thisfro@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 days ago

Where do you make the cut though? Do basic GPU nodes count already? Do TPUs count?

[–] Dojan@pawb.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I am aware, but it’d be disingenuous to say that we’re not training LLMs in Europe.

[–] skisnow@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago

Lucky that nobody said that, then.
