Nate Bargatze, who has hosted Saturday Night Live twice, had largely escaped the limelight at the dizzying spectacle at the White House on Sunday until Cheryl Hines, the wife of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., uploaded a snap of the trio together on Instagram, with Vice President JD Vance in the background.

Bargatze, though, posted nothing to his 3.1 million Instagram followers. It was crickets over on X, too, with no mention of his weekend foray into the heart of MAGA.

"Nate Bargatze can support Trump. Nate Bargatze can attend Trump’s White House UFC party. Nate Bargatze can pose for photos with political figures," one person posted. "What Nate Bargatze can’t do is all of those things and then pull the 'I’m not political' card like we're all f—king idiots."

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 2 points 8 hours ago

Nah, I boycott anyone who is a celebrity, tech leader, etc. that supports trump.

[–] GarboDog@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

Uh, which one is the comedian? They all look like maga shit heads and none seem to be funny at all. Unless you mean Canadian, and by that account no none of them look Canadian either.

Who? I'm getting old

[–] SoupBrick@pawb.social 70 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I love how he knew this was something he had to hide from his fanbase.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

RFK's wife Cheryl totally threw him under the bus. Great people.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

They don't think MAGA is anything to be embarrassed about.

[–] Brainsploosh@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

If they did, they wouldn't be lying about it.

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Not sure how he would think it wouldn't get out. I imagine it's a highly photographed event.

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 8 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

That fuckin' creepy weirdo RFK is married?

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 4 points 17 hours ago

Kinda validated Larry in a ton of ways.

Bro I swear to god standup comedians have such a weirdly high hit rate for being trash people

[–] Larry@piefed.social 4 points 18 hours ago

You have to be an insane narcissist to believe you deserve millions of dollars to stand on stage by yourself and rattle off dick jokes.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Stand-up was literally started as an idea by a man who self described as a fascist. Behind the Bastards did a decent two parter on it...last year?

[–] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, that's upsetting. I was genuinely a fan. I'm not entirely surprised, though. A lot of his material has to do with him being kind of dumb about how the world works and his wife having to think for the both of them.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

I've only seen the one special, and I thought it was his delivery. Just a slow walk through the story.

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I have no idea who this is.

[–] dditty@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 7 hours ago

No shade, but Nate Bargatze is one of the most popular standup comedians at the moment. He has released five stand up specials over the last 11ish years. He sells out arenas nationwide. My mom (a boomer) loves his clean comedy.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

I vaguely recognize his name from a girl on Tinder. You aren't missing much.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Has anyone else mentioned, yet, the OpSec problems in having both Mr Trump and Mr Vance out on the lawn, sitting still, for hours at a time? Was Mike Johnson ordered to stay away as the survivor role?

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Continuity of government is always in the security plan.

[–] kbobabob@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 day ago

Maybe he's just gathering Intel for a comedy special where he talks about all the crazy shit that went down there.

I mean, I doubt it, but a person can dream.

No, not really. I really liked his special and his SNL stuff, it was storytelling comedy.

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

weird. I saw a trailer for his movie and it was immediately obvious that he's square in the low-information, white suburban guy demographic that's been floating Trump for over 10 years.

[–] PoopingCough@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The movie may have made it obvious, but that came after his special and hosting SNL. I somewhat followed his rise, and it definitely wasn't obvious from the beginning. His angle was basically dumb gen x husband/dad but he knows he's dumb and is totally comfortable with it. That requires a level of introspection that isn't normally seen in MAGA types, so imo he definitely started out seemingly harmless.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Seems the normal pattern I guess. You put out something that sucks balls and the only thing left is to cozy up to the dumbest fucks on the planet AKA MAGA. And hope that those poor fucks have enough dough to afford a ticket to your shit movie.

[–] Ledivin@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

...was this not obvious to everyone? I watched maybe half of a set and turned it off because he seemed like a piece of shit.

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Somehow, I knew this one without knowing it.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I had the same feeling. So this really isn't that groundbreaking to me, also didn't find him to be very funny.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)
[–] ArgentRaven@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

He did, but not on the big event that the others did. He did a show earlier than that. I don't know what the conditions were, but I imagine they were similar.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

He's not on the wikipedia list, but I have no idea if it's complete.

Noooooo goddamn it Nate I loved your comedy style. Fuck me this is so frustrating.

[–] keyez@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I thought it was gonna be Shane Gillis that was gonna get shown as MAGA, while I liked when Bargatze hosted SNL I haven't heard much of any thing of his since. A podcast I listen to said they attended a show of his and the youngest people there were in their 50s so it's certainly lining up.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Shane Gillis was really obvious to me. For some reason, Bargatze was a surprise.

[–] keyez@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Is Gillis confirmed MAGA? i haven't seen so yet and have heard clips of him rebuking Texas and Trump in the recent past.

[–] kylie_kraft@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

He went to Trump's white trash lawn festival.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

He definitely was in his special on netflix. It's hard to get that stink off, even if he's changed his mind.

[–] nova_ad_vitum@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thinking Trump is funny isn't the same as being MAGA. I'm not saying he framed that "correctly" according to my own judgment, but there is a distinction here.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Edit: Sorry, I thought you were taking about Bergatze. Did you watch the Gillis special? He was all in on right wing politics.

If you were a celebrity, would you have gone to his White Trash House event?

[–] treehugger6@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Why do they all look the same?
