Can't find either the title or the year of painting.

Skrepetsky (Семён Скрепецкий) was a Russian [I assume, amateur] artist who painted grotesque neo-primitivist caricatures of modern Russia, and built up a bit of a fame online. He has been shot and killed yesterday in Biała Podlaska, Poland, where he has lived since 2021.

Such a weird murder. He had no huge support behind him nor he had political power to his name. Just a caricature-artist doing his thing and executing his freedom of speech rights expressed in his art.

I can name a few artists who are not as popular and also have left ruzzia due to their political stance that are alive and active.

Bemuses me why would anyone kill a small-community artists for his stance. Probably was killed by a disgruntled ruzzia fanatic, who somehow lives in Poland and is/was nearby.

He carried out some public performance or demonstration right before the murder, it could've been the "trigger" for the killer. AFAIK there's not much further info, the killer got away...

Can’t find either the title or the year of painting.

Seems to be titled either "The Birth of a Hero" or "Meat Grinder," with a date of about 2022-2023.

Thank you, where did you find the info? I tried searching for "meat grinder" in Russian (мясорубка) with the artist's name but got no results.

Reverse Google-Image search, then applied translations. I don't remember specific sites, but it was a couple in Arabic that turned up those titles.

Nice! Rest in piece, and may there be a hell specifically for people who commit such injustices.

One neat detail is that the "mince" comes out as St. Georg Ribbons.

In this case, genocide, invasions, and the killing of civilians.

Wait are you talking about the artist, Putin, or the little guy in the meat grinder? I am so confused.

Im surprised this is considered amateur

[–] antonim@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

By that I simply mean he has no formal training, which TBH was just my assumption, he seems to be completely outside the formal artistic sphere, and his art is spread mainly online.

I would certainly associate his paintings with Naive art which can be both a result of lacking the formal educarion or a delibirate choice

[–] Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Without context, I would assume the work is stylized.

[–] alleycat@feddit.org 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Maybe amateur as in "doesn't get paid for their art"?

[–] Jyrdano@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

More likely as in “has no formal education in art”

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 5 points 1 day ago

That would typically be called naïve art rather than amateur.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

All artists are amateurs?

/I keed...

[–] errer@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago
