Remember when Trump said people are tired of winning?

Australia here. We're available for invasion any time. I mean you don't even need to soften us up with the middle and bombs. We can go straight to peace talks and accepting reparations.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

That's not how it works with allies, sadly. Instead we gave them 300 billion for submarines we will never get.

I'm sure US will be fine by just cracking down on some 1% of tax evasion. Probably would get more money out of it than this payment.

The Iranian defence budget is something like 10-20 billion a year, btw. How's that for a return on investment.

[–] SorryQuick@lemmy.ca 3 points 21 hours ago

I’m not sure that 300 billion is even enough to pay for all the damages that were done to begin with, not much of a return on investment.

The best trade deal in the history of trade deals, maybe ever.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Really? Did you forget that the US blew up more than one Iranian elementary school?

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 1 points 18 hours ago

I mean, one could make the argument that higher poverty levels from Western sanctions were killing more elementary school children than that yearly, so a few elementary schools for sanctions relief is "worth it" in a purely utilitarian sense. That aside I don't think the Iranian regime was optimizing for minimum dead elementary school children, so it can be a good deal for them even if it sucks for other people.

Art of the deal!

The $425 B number was from an Australian publication reporting in AUD. It's still 300B USD.

Apparently part of the agreement is that Iran reserves the right to charge for crossings of the Straight BUT with a two year moratorium. You know, so that they can fuck the inevitable Democratic administration once these fucks are kicked to the curb.

Two months.

  1. Upon the signing of this MoU, the Islamic Republic of Iran will make arrangements using its best efforts for the safe passage of commercial vessels with no charge for 60 days only from the Persian Gulf to the Sea of Oman and vice versa. The traffic of commercial vessels will immediately start, and considering the need for removing the technical and military obstacles and demining by the Islamic Republic of Iran, will be instated within 30 days.

🤣

That's so much worse! The art of the deal!

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah, see? Just got tired from all the winning. So, so tired.

[–] n4ch1sm0@piefed.social 31 points 1 day ago (2 children)

For scale, that count of money is enough for free college tuition for like a decade. There's probably space for room and board there too.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

What kind of college are you going to where it costs thirty billion a year?!?

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago

an American college

[–] n4ch1sm0@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Should've clarified that I meant that in context of the american population lol

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's $35b a year for just tuition, around 92b per year for tuition and board.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is that with current jacked-up US private tuition rates, current jacked-up US public tuition rates, or hypothetical Europe-equivalent tuition rates?

[–] BorgDrone@feddit.nl 1 points 21 hours ago

Someone needs to pay for the pro-level handegg stadium.

Ah, much like the Reflecting Pool, he took some that wasn't broken, promised to fix it, openly embezzled money, cronies got rich, now it's in staggeringly worse condition than it was before, the American public suffers, he blames Obama, and probably shit his pants a few times in the process.

[–] Gormadt@slrpnk.net 3 points 1 day ago

"Do you accept Trump Coin?" -Dementia Don trying to make it look less bad probably.

[–] Serinus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

It's entirely possible Trump is eager to spend this money because he's been promised a kickback.
