here are some of my modern day favorites

I've been playing Minecraft 1.16.5 recently. Honestly it's the best version imo

[–] KyuubiNoKitsune@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 17 hours ago

This was peak for me. Such a beautiful game.

[–] pewpew@feddit.it 7 points 1 day ago

We need better games with "worse" graphics. I don't need everything to be """photorealistic""" slop

Back when developers considered it important to texture their games. Miss those days.

Stylized graphics > hyperrealism

Cheaper to compute as well, so no need for beefy hardware

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Yeah that's why I never care when a new PlayStation comes out. You all could have been making fun games on the old hardware. making it render faster doesn't make it any more fun. I mostly play indie games that look like cartoons now

With graphic limitations like this games actually had to be fun

Isn't that one of the games coined worst in history?

Here's some eyecandy for you:

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ah man! The House! I remember this game. There was so many things to do... open door, shut door, put egg on pan... eat egg...

Wow what a blast from the past!

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

The music was amazing too, and the game coded to perfection.

[–] Griffus@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, Superman 64. Only beat by ET as worst game ever.

[–] kryptonianCodeMonkey@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I haven't had to bad fortune of playing ET. I did have Superman 64, unfortunately. How the hell that mess was ever released...

[–] Griffus@lemmy.zip 0 points 9 hours ago

The games industry used to be something else.

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

They one thing I'll never miss is the damn fog

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

You've been poisoned by nostalgia.

[–] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

Mmm, I think there's an inverted argument here. Older games didn't have to be better (we just remember the good ones), but there is a much larger market now of demonstrably horrible games that float by on good graphics and gambling.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I really do think that though.

I mean look at chess, simple figures and an 8x8 board... Fantastic game.

[–] M137@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Plenty of new and old games have fun gameplay, plenty of new and old games have bad gameplay. You are 100% what the comment your replied to said. You remember the good games, not the many more bad ones.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 18 hours ago

Okay fair enough, let's do a reality check.

I love tactical games, any recent good ones? Or a non-action RPG?

Wait, for real? That cat has more polygons than Christophe's sword.

I love that game.

Totally unrelated, but that game has one of the weirdest multiplayers i have seen. It feels closer to a D&D session than a MP

[–] kayzeekayzee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Which VtM game is it? Also what's the multiplayer like?

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Ah, my mistake. I thought it was from the late levels of redemption, but it must be bloodlines.

In redemption (MP) you choose a map and the host acts practically as DM, spawning enemies and loot as the other players crawl through the dungeons. It's overly complicated, but an interesting proposal.

There is a good chunk of items that you wouldnt normally find in the SP (weapons with special stats, weapons for humans) which makes me think that they had a bigger idea of how the MP should work.

Holy shit lol

[–] Griffus@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even though my Devon Rex has a Sphinx shaped head, there are at least two polygons too many on that nose. Six if this is supposed to be a regular Norwegian Woodcat.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 2 days ago

I'm pretty sure it's just a derpy tabby cat.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

Thought he had a little goatee but that’s the post behind him.
