He's got entirely too much money, if he can blow it on this kind of bullshit. Same with all of them.

We need to take at least 50% from these Parasites, as a start, reserving the right to come back for more, at any time. Out of that, we give a bonus to all their workers, then put the rest in a fund to cover things like Medicare 4 All, UBI, free college, college loan and medical bill forgiveness, free day care, etc.

And when we need more, we'll be back. And if you continue to squander your ill-gotten profits, so you don't have to pay your societal obligations/reparations, well just take it away, and imprison the corporate leadership who insist on pursuing their Parasitic business practices.

People like you are the reason Monero exists.

You cant steal what you cant see and if you murder the person you still get nothing

Thats one way to vaporize everyones 401k

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago

That's okay. He's got mountains of cash to waste because he's selling billions of user data worth trillions.

To save you a click: A betting app.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 8 points 8 hours ago

Meta Polymarket?

[–] moobythegoldensock@infosec.pub 11 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

A betting app where you gamble video game points instead of money. So missing the entire reason betting apps exist.

[–] NottaLottaOcelot@lemmy.ca 8 points 8 hours ago

Initially, but the article mentioned they aren’t ruling out real money in future. I think they likely want to get a broad user base first, then start offering the really exciting bets for small amounts of money, eventually leading to larger sums.

[–] drmoose@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

well there will be points <-> usd exchange just like japanese casinos which are totally not gambling and just let you win toys - don't mind the "we buy toys" shop right next door. This strategy is as old as time itself. Once you have this layer you can do so much manipulation and obfuscation.

That dude's really never had an original idea in his life, has he?

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 9 points 8 hours ago

nope. even back in his Harvard days his original claim to fame was a hot or not clone. Facebook was built off the ideas of other people and myspace. even the original exclusivity of FB wasn't his idea. He's never produced a single original idea ever. So how did he become successful? He got lucky that a couple dudes went to him first as opposed to another developer to build their idea.

[–] Peppycito@sh.itjust.works 3 points 8 hours ago

His complete lack of imagination and vision are what gives me hope that he's totally going to shit the bed one terrible idea at a time.

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 36 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

I have watched more than one friend flush his family/savings down the shitter on these apps.

I don't get gambling, worst I ever did was a few trips to Vegas and betting on the ponies that bot count on one hand.

[–] zurohki@aussie.zone 29 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

I put two dollars into a poker machine once. I won $7.

Now I'm up by $5 so long as I never gamble again. Don't want to break my streak.

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 10 points 12 hours ago

Some people are very susceptible to variable reward schemes and it causes addictive behavior, especially people high in impulsivity, sensation-seeking, or reward sensitivity.

[–] inkblade@lemmy.world 13 points 14 hours ago

The year was 2015, and I predicted that facebook would include a betting feature into their stupid app, and my friends called me mad!

11 years later, who is mad now!? 😂😂😂

[–] EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago

Damn, that might actually turn a profit. 😢

Doing the Lord's work!

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 25 points 12 hours ago

Nice clickbait. Too bad I got my info from the comments instead.

[–] datendefekt@feddit.org 30 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I‘m with Ed Zitron - the AI hype and especially stuff like this just makes it so obvious that the tech bros are flat out of ideas.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 7 points 12 hours ago

Yes but turns out they don't need ideas to siphon all the money into their pockets anymore. The entire system is designed for it now.

[–] AvocadoCumToast@lemmy.zip 34 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (3 children)

This guy raises cows and has fun figuring out ways to feed the cow to make the meat more richer.

I’d bet $20 that’s how he sees us. Just feeding us addictive apps to make us yummier for advertisers. No concern for our wellbeing.

[–] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 9 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I’d bet $20

Soon, you'd be able to!

[–] adhdsergio@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Oof! Also this joke is so...meta

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 13 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I wouldn't bet a dime that the sun would rise tomorrow on a gambling app run by a guy like him.

[–] EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It’s hard to mess up. In fact, Trump had to run off at least a few gambling addicts to tank his casino. Modern software engineers would find it difficult to create such friction in a digital environment.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 6 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Two important facts. One, there is no such thing as idiot-proof. Two, anyone in charge did not get there by not being an idiot.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I dunno... have you heard Trump speak?

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Sorry for the confusing double negative, Trump sounding that way is exactly my point

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I would argue that some people in charge are very shrewd and get into positions of power. And some people are decent and become leaders (Zelenskyy and Obama as examples)

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 2 points 6 hours ago

did not get there by not being an idiot

This applies to both of them too. They weren't elected for being smart, they both are smart but they leaned on charisma, speaking skills, and a sense of 'genuineness' to win their supporters' favour. I really meant it. People simply do not get elected for seeming smart, and if they are smart they won't try to sound smart while running for office in America.

I was fond of Obama when I was younger, but I look back with disdain on a lot of his track record. He sold people hope, and people look back on the time before Trump with understandably rosy glasses though, so I don't begrudge anyone liking him.

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 2 points 12 hours ago

Next he'll implement the 18+ image generation that Grok was doing and you're getting closer to metaverse blackjack and hookers.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 15 points 15 hours ago

The world has no idea how much it wants the Torment Nexus and it's up to visionaries like Zuck to show us the light.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 13 hours ago

last refuge of the desperate, building a gambling app, or gambling themselves.

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 9 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

And he can't be voted out. Zuck literally made himself king of his own little virtual empire.

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 18 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I self exiled myself from his empire 12+ years ago. His crown means nothing to me.

He can't keep that sinking ship afloat w/ bots alone. So if people keeping walking way it all ends.

[–] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world -5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Boomers, Gen x, and older millennials are a massive clientele. You absolutely cannot convince them to abandon Facebook.

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 0 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Not my experience w/ my circle as we are all GenX. We use other ways to keep in touch.

[–] Nurse_Robot@lemmy.world -1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)
[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 6 points 14 hours ago

That data says about half the user base is not what you say it is.

Largest share 25-34, 18-24 in very close third place, making 18-34 about 42%. Also, general usage still expected to grow (somehow), so it's not just old people staying there forever.

34 in 2025 is millenial but not even older millenial.

[–] iamthetot@piefed.ca 1 points 16 hours ago

He'd be an emperor then, surely.

[–] 01189998819991197253@infosec.pub 3 points 14 hours ago

selflessly

Having seen him operate and read about his past, he does not know how to act selflessly, just as a cat does not know how to fly.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 3 points 16 hours ago

Yeah, not clicking on that headline, sorry

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 2 points 16 hours ago

Yes, the industry as a whole I'd say was stagnating before AI came along, Windows 11 was full of garbage and cramming ads and games into the start menu and that was released a year before ChatGPT3.5
