Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:

We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.

Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:

The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.

  1. Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

  2. Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.

  3. Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.

  4. Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.

  5. Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.

  6. Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.

  7. American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.

  8. Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.

  9. AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.

The Swedish government refused to publish the results of the investigation and the press just went along with it.

And Poland did not give away the patsy whom they chose to throw under the bus

I still can't believe there were people tossing around the idea that Russia did it despite them being able to.....you know.....TURN IT OFF

German prosecutors believe the Ukrainian national suspected of sabotaging Baltic Sea gas pipelines in 2022 acted "on the orders of state authorities in Ukraine."

Agreed. And who was giving Ukraine orders?

[–] Self_Sealing_Stem_Bolt@hexbear.net 31 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Makes me laugh every time I think about it. Biden, on camera, said, we'll blow up the pipeline.

Then it happens and he goes, uWu we didn't do it.

And libs believed the second line and completely forgot the first.

[–] someone@hexbear.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Didn't he talk about it mere weeks before it happened?

Yeah. And libs were like, "damn Russians, blowing up their own pipeline"

[–] CommCat@hexbear.net 38 points 1 day ago

of course blame it all on Ukraine, because we all know it's not a NATO proxy war against Russia

[–] Blep@hexbear.net 60 points 1 day ago (2 children)

[–] SerialExperimentsGay@hexbear.net 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Kinkshaming petplayers is uncalled for, as is comparing kinksters to NATO hogs. please cut that shit out.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i don't read that as shaming. subs would come so hard if they could submit so thoroughly and completely in a scene

Normal people assume that any given event is related to the events leading up to it. E.g., the Nordstream pipeline blowing up is probably related to the president president of the US implying that he would blow it up, Russian troops intervening in an ethnic cleansing in eastern Ukraine is probably related to the years long ethnic cleansing being committed in eastern Ukraine, etc. In the US, where we live as the most propogandized population in the world, we've been told that there is no order or reason for world events except for bad people randomly lashing out. There's no logic of private capital explaining everything around you, and there's nothing you can do about the bad stuff except voting.

This wouldn't be published unless Germany wanted it published. There's something going on between Europe and Ukraine considering Poland is also beefing with them.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

somebody in germany must understand that they're getting fucked by the proxy war too, and the poland stuff i've seen is mostly about ukraine constantly glazing nazis.

[–] demeritum@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 21 hours ago

Nah its just the us giving the go to drop ukraine.

[–] Cysioland@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 1 day ago

Yeah, the current president of Poland is a right wing history wonk so it was too much even for him
