The main question I have here is: "Did she do it to "prove" that vaccines were deadly, or was the vaccine excuse just handy after she decided she didn't want to be a mom anymore?"

And this is the "pro-life" movement in America. HA.

[–] Earthman_Jim@lemmy.zip 9 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Maybe she was just generally negligent and being anti-vax was just in the same bucket as a whole bunch of other shitty negligent behaviors?

[–] ShredderFeeder@shredderfood.net 3 points 8 hours ago

Probably said it in a panic because she thought it was believable...

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 6 points 9 hours ago

pro-life BEFORE you come out. Once you come out, no one gives a fuck about you.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think its extraordinarily likely that this person has some very serious unmanaged mental health issues.

That's not an excuse, she's still a murderer, just saying its unlikely that a person of full mental faculty murdered there own children to prove a point about protecting ones children from potential harm.

[–] ShredderFeeder@shredderfood.net 1 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

I don't think she did it to prove a point, I think she used what she'd done to forward "the cause"

This is one of those cases where I don't give a fuck about mental health. You kill a kid, you deserve to die. I don't care what the underlying issue is.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 1 points 5 hours ago

Well, maybe if you took a moment to try to understand the motivations of this person you could acknowledge that there's a chance that this could have been avoided if the mother had better mental health support.

As I said in my first comment, mental health isn't an excuse and she's still a murderer. She needs to face justice for that.

However, understanding the circumstances that led to this provide an opportunity to avoid similar things happening in future.

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 7 hours ago

Can we just make mental health issues more easily cared for? So maybe the next person gets some post partum screening, supports, and doesn't kill their kid?

Shaw is also a plaintiff in a federal lawsuit brought by Children's Health Defense and others against the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Either for money or attention is my guess.

The main question I have here is: “Did she do it to “prove” that vaccines were deadly,

My parents got the COVID vaccine and died!

Oh no, did they have a massive allergic reaction?

No, they were driving home from getting their shot and a drunk driver blew a red light and t-boned their car.

Was it a Tesla? Teslas are programmed to be attracted to the nano bots in the jab in order to kill "woke leftists".

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago (3 children)

I do wonder if it is possible it was something else, like SIDS or what have you. It does seem suspicious, but, either way - it's tragic as hell.

[–] Janx@piefed.social 10 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

Doubt it was SIDS, it's right there in the name: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Apparently, it pretty much only affects infants under a year old, with 90% of cases occurring before 6 months. It would be almost unheard of if it affected both of her 18-month-old toddlers at the exact same time. Very sad, I'm glad they're investigating this...

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

Not almost unheard of. Unheard of. Both experiencing it at the exact same time does not happen.

[–] ShredderFeeder@shredderfood.net 1 points 9 hours ago

Possible, but not likely.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world -1 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

I believe that SIDS has been disproven and it's found that children are suffocating because they get themselves into positions where they cannot breathe properly.

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 10 points 12 hours ago

Sorry this just isn't true.

SIDS is more of a category of "unexplained infant death", so yes: some of these infants may have blocked their own airways.

However, that's not true of all cases. There's complex neuro-stuff going on that we don't understand and is difficult to research.

We reduce the risk of SIDS by ensuring that kids are less likely to block their airways with blankets and so on, because those are the things we can practically do. We can't fiddle with the neuro-stuff.

If your child dies of SIDS, that does not mean you suffocated them or let them suffocate themselves.

There's a lot of research about this.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

IMO, either way she deserves going throug a meat grinder… feet first with a hydration break at the knees and another one at the hip

[–] WesternInfidels@feddit.online 85 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Her kids died over a year ago. Police said "the incident is being handled as a homicide" at the time. The kids' autopsy was scheduled for over a year ago.

They only arrested her last week.

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

That just speaks to incompetence on the part of the police, or a lack of willingness to enforce against this person.

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 7 hours ago

Well it's not like she has more babies to kill, or that the evidence is clear cut without a lengthy analysis

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 37 points 20 hours ago

All that smoke RFK Jr.'s idiotic "movement" let her throw around what she did probably contributed to the delay.

[–] deathmetaldawgy@lemmy.ml 39 points 21 hours ago (2 children)

Another big sad part of this is that the typical Anti-vax person would read this and think it’s still the vaccines that killed those kids and also that the parents are being blamed to be silenced/framed for big pharma. There’s no amount of medical evidence that could convince someone that vaccines aren’t dangerous because they’ve already read books by non-doctors telling them they’d be stupid for “believing in vaccines”. If anyone tries to give me Aaron Siri’s book again I’ll prob laugh at them though I should have the first time. I’m not having kids tho so apparently I’m not important enough to indoctrinate 😂

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 23 points 20 hours ago

https://www.wonkette.com/p/mom-who-claimed-vaccines-killed-her

I think they are actively pushing that narrative:

Children’s Health Defense is, of course, still on the case and presenting Shaw’s situation as just another reason not to get one’s kids vaccinated — because if the vaccines kill the children, they could be sent to prison for their murder.

[–] KelvarCherry@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (2 children)

Yeah these charges are just going to make her a martyr to the anti-vaxxers. I do feel uneasy seeing any mom charged for the death of her own baby/toddler without clear evidence; seeing all the charges for murders for miscarriages, and cases like "Dingo ate my Baby". Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is a real thing; and all too often mothers face criminal scrutiny just for being the caretaker of a baby/toddler that passes.
We'll have to see what the state's proof is for the foul play.

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 12 hours ago

18 months old is old for SIDS. And both at the same time come on. And you don't know what the autopsies have shown.

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is a real thing

...Two at once? 🤨

without clear evidence

So you've read the forensic reports?

[–] treehugger6@lemmy.world 15 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Obvious MAGA supporter. May those babies that she didn't deserve rest in peace. This pisses me off so much. If I had a chance to see her I would spit on her. And let me guess, she's "pro-life"

[–] AngryRedHerring@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

and we can thank Trump for emboldening this toxic nonsense

Found this person's comment interesting:

“The next few episodes of Last Week Tonight are going to be interesting…,” another added, referring to comedian John Oliver’s late-night show, which airs on HBO.

I know Oliver has made comments himself about this. I wonder how he's going to handle it.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I'd be curious if someone has a curated list of media outlets and websites that started out alright, or at least relatively innocuous, even if they were overly corporate and center-right (like CBS), and then took a hard right turn...

CBS -> fell into Donvict-friendly hands WashPo -> owned by Bozos Twitter -> fell into fElon's hands, now known as Xitter RealClearPolitics -> was apparently sold to batshit-insane right winger(s).

And so on. I'm not sure of something going the other direction, although some might say that Steve Jobs' wife is on the left and bought the Atlantic, but....I've not really noticed an improvement in Atlantic's output.

I do have to laugh when someone points at pages like this to "prove" that there really is a "liberal media". I guess if you basically have nothing actually on the left but the most fringe of things running on a shoestring budget and no audience (like counterpunch for example) and then rank everything that's remaining - basically all of the spectrum from the center to the extremist radically right wing, the stuff in the center becomes "very left", lol:

https://www.biasly.com/media-bias-chart/us-main/

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 6 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

It frustrates me whenever a YouTube channel takes a sponsorship from Ground News, because they treat ideological bias as something that's evenly balanced and equally problematic from both sides, when in reality the overton window of what counts as left-wing keeps getting dragged further and further to the right with the resurgence of fascism around the world.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

I don't know much about Ground News though I have seen the adverts on channels. I had a co-worker ask if I used it and I tried to not react in a rather hot-take as the idea rather annoys me - that the problem is somehow "too much radicalism on both sides", whatever.

I still have to laugh about the ratings sites like mediabiasfactcheck.com (remember when things here were getting that robot to rate them via this?) and "allsides.com" (haha! allsides! They should have just called it bothsides, FFS).

I remember someone saying they would not even read an article I linked at Wonkette. I asked what specific facts they took issue with - of course, they would not even read the link in question, but came back with this: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/wonkette/

Oh, right, so again, some random site uses a methodology to scoop up what is largely a spectrum of moderate left (at most) to the extremist ridiculously cartoonish right wing and then put them on a scale. Because there is almost nothing on the far left of any consequence, really, it becomes almost hilariously skewed. Milquetoast "centrist" corporate dreck is classified as liberal, haha.

Anyway, sure, Wonkette has an opinion and they use humor, but they are often a great place to start and they provide references. They even issue corrections and apologies, IIRC.

MAGA women only have two types of faces. She definitely has one of them.

[–] Astronut@lemmy.zip 3 points 16 hours ago

If I had a dog with a face like hers I’d shave its ass and make it walk backwards!

She kinda looks like she has downs syndrome or something like that.
