The only reason they offer these "degrees" is so that women will pay for college with the entire goal of meeting a man and dropping out. Percentage of completion on what is commonly known as a "MRS" degree (Mrs.) is incredibly low.

From this "school"'s wikipedia:

The college and the sponsoring church are noted for "a string of assaults and sexual crimes" spanning decades.

And

claims of sex abuse in five different fundamentalist churches where church workers who molested children were traced back to Hyles–Anderson College.

Shocked, I tell you. Shocked.

Some of these are actually things more colleges should offer. The number of people I’ve seen who can’t manage their finances or cook is fucking insane. I can even get behind the clothing, baking and home management courses.

It’s bullshit it’s being hoisted on women in such a way, but still I think at least two of them should be mandatory.

Home Ec used to be high school stuff. Should be again but insurance (and likely funding, as usual) fucked that up.

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

Home Ec and Shop were fun classes and I think everyone should get to do both!

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago

I know more colleges did used to offer home ec - I remember taking a history class in a building that had been used for that purpose, and I was at a state school.

It’s not unusual to have “health” classes that do involve some meal planning/learning recipes - I’ve tutored both high schoolers and college kids who’ve had those classes. The college version seems to typically be online though, which is of limited use.

I’d love to take the clothing construction classes. It’d be fascinating to compare a votech sewing course versus an art school fashion design course versus this.

I mean, this "degree" is stupid as hell, but it's not being hoisted upon anyone; you know exactly what you're getting into when signing up for a marriage and motherhood degree. It's just effectively a scam.

Women Used of God

God's getting kinky.

trinitarian Christians (which is basically all of them) believe Jesus is fully god and has always been around.

god having sex is vanilla when you realize that Jesus had sex with his mom so he could be born...

Growing up in a Southern Baptist church(one of the weirder ones), I can promise you that was not how it was sold to the followers.

[–] Big_Boss_77@fedinsfw.app 1 points 14 hours ago

Most of the Bible is sold to the followers incorrectly... you think they'd be so dick hard about it if it was presented as intended?

Nothing like finding a good Christian wife and then finding out she comes with a college debt to pay off, for a completely useless degree.

How useless do you need to be to need a college course on baking, the instructions are free on the internet. Just follow them....

I really want to find some syllabi. I have a weird hyper fixation on fundie colleges and I’ve always wanted to audit some classes at one to compare to the rigor of a real college class.

I thrifted and read a shit ton of books by people who teach at this type of fundie schools and I just… uh wonder a bit. I’ve read Martin Luther, whom they should be reading too, but they don’t really appear to have the reading/writing skills that go with reading and understanding that type of prose. I’d be happy to show dozens of examples from my collection of just inane nonsense.

I understand that to a lot of yall religion is stupid and dumb in itself but metaphorically imagine this as being the rules of a fantasy setting like Lord of the Rings, and this is someone pretending to know the lore/obnoxiously and wrongly correcting other nerds on the internet about shit having only watched The Hobbit movies?

As a non-fundamentalist Christian and Tolkien nerd, I can say this is the best metaphor for my exchanges with “fundies” like you call them. You have a lot of determination to read more than a few paragraphs of their books…

Among the many other horrible things my dumb ass country uses our tax dollars on, college was always a joke. Just look at this turd sandwich of a country. It looks so fucking steeeeeeewwwwpid. We live in a inverse and the corpos only need a few lip dick Dudley Do-Rights, violent monsters and empty vessels to maintain this mediocre bucket of slop. Like good luck with that... as the 2 family income was always a trap since it makes raising a family almost damn near imposible (I argue impossible) these breeders can't stop killing themselves via familicides. People used to think it is a male thing but actualy a recent uptic of females gettin in on the action. Our problems are material. Peasants could live in shacks... in the USA it is a crime to be homeless all to fill the prisions and milk the tax payer. They create the problem they create the solution. Just a system of abuse where no one benifits really. This country is hell. As a kid I hated it here, As a adult I feel the same, I have never witinessed improvement ever in the states.
