I doubted it because of all of the hype but it legit made me shit my pants.

Also does a good job of evoking the feeling of being in a really toxic relationship. Like that paranoia of even getting out of bed in the middle of the night.

Jesus, I may need to watch something more wholesome to decompress.

But I'm glad "da youths" are getting into good horror cinema.

There's nothing scarier than a man who has power over you and knows he doesn't have to let go scared . In retrospect, the doppleganger acting out to the chagrin of the incel sex pest was the ironic saving grace for Nicki considering it's revealed that she's aware of being taken over. It was clear that the MC was never going to stop brutally SAing her until she died which really twists the knife in.

I really like horror movies where we follow the monster/monster is the main character since it really delves into their twisted psyche of seeing how much they can get away with and their fear/terror feels more cathartic to see since we are rooting against them. sicko-flipped

I know a lot of people got the abusive relationship part of the movie to be really scary and I could see why but it never crossed my mind with how much I wanted the doppleganger to fuck his shit up/more terrified of what the MC would do.

I just saw it. Amazing performance from the person playing Nikki. And the naturalness of all the other characters heightened the unnaturalness possessing Nikki even more.

I haven't watched it yet (well, I watched a bit of it, but it was already tense and I'm bad with actually tense films), but yeah, the actress I think was in the Superman & Lois show, I remember her being pretty decent with her acting in that at that given her age. So good to see talented / passionate people get success in their art.

Yeah I loved it, might end up being my favorite of the year. As terrifying as Nikki seems she's not even close to the scariest person in the movie.

I wouldn't call myself a horror fan but probably the majority of my favorite directors and movies from the last 10 years are horror or adjacent.

I was also pleasantly surprised.

spoilerWhen he's trying to sneak out and she begs him to kill her, he says something like, "would it be so bad to be with me?" Her response of "it never was..." Gave me chills. Fucked up what could have been a great thing with his cowardice.

Yeah initially I kinda sympathized with his character, like he had not idea that novelty toy would actually work (also kinda irresponsible for a curio shop to be selling that). And he did try and undo the wish when he realized how it was working, but that line did sorta seal that he is just being a piece of shit.

But the thing is that she was into him anyway, and he's the one who couldn't say anything when he had the opportunity to. She made it easy to tell her by asking point blank, and he still fucked it up.

The one other girl said she asked her how she felt about him and said he was "like a little brother". I think she just wanted to know to let him down easy. Or maybe she was into him and he was just a stupid incel. Idk.

I'm not a big horror fan but I enjoyed it - there were so many good, comedic moments like when Nikki pulls the gorby-sad face when they're playing the jenga game

Yeah, these new generation of people and studios making movies to launch directly to the big screen are really made a good job, titles like obsession, backrooms or TADC (who are also started like a youtube promotion) make a place in the industry dominated by hollywood who time ago stop listen to the public
