That one looks like it's peppered. I didn't know cats liked black pepper.

Garlic, which is often in salami, is toxic to cats. Please be careful.

My old neighbor was a vet tech. One thing I learned from her is to keep in mind relative size in treats. For a normal size cat, a single slice of salami is analogous to a pound of salami for a normal sized person. Giving kitties treats is fun, but they aren't that bright and will absolutely eat more than they can handle if given the chance. Even if it doesn't kill them, it can cause them pain, and it's on us to do what we can to keep them from hurting themselves.

Second this. Had a cat that learned how to open cabinets. He found his dry food and ate everything. All of it until he had a bowel obstruction.

And even then, at the vet, he very willingly gobbled down his medication.

Cat tax

Damn that's one adorable glutton. And he looks famished! You should give him a treat.

He's not alive anymore but he was a very special cat. Very hungry and very jealous. He wanted all! :D

A little, little bit. As a very occasional treat. Remember that the salt and spices in salami are dosed for humans that are, on average, 15 times larger than a house cat, and things like garlic and onion aren't toxic to us but they are to them.

Unsalted, boiled chicken breast is a better every-day treat for kitty.

I don't understand the haters.

One or two bites isn't going to hurt them.

One of my cats loves cheese. But it has to be sharp, stinky cheese. I know it's not good for him, but a tiny little piece every few weeks isn't going to hurt.

No hatred at all.

House cats are surprisingly delicate and surprisingly stupid little critters and it's our job as their designated thinking monkeys to properly take care of them, and that includes keeping their dietary needs in mind. Plants that are delicious to us humans are poisonous to house cats. Look at that cute little face and think about how much dying of kidney failure hurts as you're designing treats for your furry little buddy.

Not even hating. Literally only gave my male cat two bites of perschuto and he got a bladder blockage.

Was painful, he almost died, and it costed 6 grand. We didn't have pet insurance then so that was a lesson I did not forget.

I seen my cat in intense pain and almost die, I am almost slightly offended you would call me a hater for trying to warn another person of what could happen. If anyone doesnt know yes over salty foods and fatty foods are bad for cats, especially male cats. You can call someone a hater for sounding passionate but I think you should understand where that passion comes from, and its a one of concern. Its not someone telling you what to do, it's someone warning you.

The problem is that you need to take memes seriously and get in fights with people on the Internet.

The cat my family had growing up loved cheese so much that we'd jingle our metal cheese slicer to draw him out whenever we couldn't find him. He lived to be 16. He probably ate an entire pound of cheese every year from all the scraps my sister would give him.

[–] Nonconfrontational@lemmy.ml 0 points 20 hours ago

Imagine how old he would have lived to if you fed him properly!

I just liked the pic and moved on, cuz I knew the comment section would be this way lol

Wasn't there a french cartoon with some black cat that likes stinky cheese and grants people the magic superpower of destroying anything they touch?

My man's, are talking about pepe le'pew? His green stink would wilt plants and stuff, but I don't think he passed along that power.

Just a little bit of slommy!

It’s very salty for the fella and especially hard on their kidneys as they get older. Give it as a rare treat and make sure kibty drinks plenty of water after.

I would personally rinse the slommy with water and give a few small bacon bits sized pieces. :3

Everyone here (rightfully) upset about possibly hurting the kitty and I'm just here like salami goddamnit! Salami!

...I'm old

[–] smeg@feddit.uk 5 points 1 day ago

Wow, I even looked at the picture of some salami and didn't consider that's what "slommy" was meant to mean. Sounds like an urban dictionary entry.

[–] SanderZeldenthuis@nord.pub 14 points 1 day ago

Don't do that! Once they taste the slommy they will KILL to get it!

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

She looks very polite. Give her more.

[–] bl4ckp1xx13@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Did my cat get a Neuralink and join Lemmy?

No more for you! Not for a long time anyway.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 1 points 15 hours ago
