The show looks kinda shitty even without AI upscaling. It was super low budget and from the late 80s/early 90s. This is just upscaled poop. Still poopy, but now sharper. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Looks like a knockoff you'd see in the absolute worst knockoff store ever.

At some point people are going to ask, why even bother participating in this society?

So how far are we from an AI "enhanced" re-release of A New Hope?

And then they should purge all availability of the old version, as is tradition.

Probably already happened

Luigi looks stoned out of his mind.

It’s Afghanimation.

The AI upscaling does look bad, but that show was done as quickly and cheaply as possible, there're going to be a lot of times that they're off-model by a little or a lot. Sometimes they're even the wrong colors a few frames. Humans make mistakes too.

What's it supposed to look like?

I can't find the same scene, but here are some examples:

It's about 41 seconds into the intro, hard to get a perfect freeze frame:

Nice find. It does look quite different. Our brains are better at filling in the missing resolution than AI.

edit: it reminds me of comparing old pixel games on a CRT vs modern TVs.

Yup, but at the same time, although I don't care to defend the upscaling, it does seem a slightly unfair frame to pick as being representative of the whole. It's a super brief shot in an action moment where the characters look distinctly goofy and low-detailed in the original.

Edit: Deleted old comment, was a bit much to say; it already looked bad and the AI made it look worse. Why do it? Just keep the old native res release up. No one asked for a AI upscale.

Yeah, that's a fair point.

Toad's hat looks especially bad even in the original.

[–] Lojcs@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

Seeing this the upscaled one doesn't look bad at all

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Whats wrong? Toad always wore a Frisbee.

Apparently he did in the original scene as well!

Mama Luigi?
