Didn’t the previous round almost kill off the Kentucky bourbon industry?
news
Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
He loathes his constituents, so that's probably a plus in his mind.
Lotsa people don't know this but Ship General Nelson was a top guy in the British navy. After he died - they put him in brandy because he died a long way away from home but they wanted to bury him in England even though he was very, very far way and very, very dead. Maybe after McConnell dies and is very, very dead - they can put him in Kentucky bourbon if that business isn't already dead. Maybe already dead? Why'd it die? When will McConnell be very, very dead. Maybe already?
In his ideal world, Trump would have the same level of power, influence and money, but his constituents would be paedophiles who can recite Pirates of Penzance by memory, but instead he's got paedophiles who are illiterate and paedophiles who identify with Rorschach from Watchmen.
As a Canadian who likes bourbon, its been a disaster
actually existing beast mode:
tariff stuff
supreme court wakes up in a year
"that's illegal, chief"
pay the companies back
on paper profits go vroom-vroom
s&p goes vroom-vroom
Does anyone give a shit any more?
Round 3 or something for Canadians to get even more nationalist I guess
On the upside, more anti American.
The anti-Americanism comes with zero introspection, I can’t stand listening to it. Anti-Americanism without it being rooted in anti-imperialism is just weird nationalist ego stroking.
That's true but Canadian nationalists always suck. The more nationalist they get the more anti-indigenous they become.
What are the maple maga saying?
They mostly live really far from me. Generally it's more like guys who want Canada to do weird Trump stuff ourselves and less the pro annexation guys.
They love trump, and think he's going to save Canada through annexation.
One maple maga person I know had no idea about US healthcare. She said “in Canada you have to wait 6 months to get seen by a specialist” and I replied “here you have to wait 6 months and go into thousands of dollars of debt”
Idk. Americans who drink Crown Royal are probably going to be upset.
Harder to imagine a more lowly, repulsive group than that
Canadian whiskey is straight dog piss
I was going to come in defending some of the good Canadian whisky, but, yeah across the board it's not great.
Canadian here, it's fucking awful. I cant get bourbon and that kinda sucks but whatever
Firstly, you're completely right. Second, Crown Royal Rye is pretty good.
remember when this same guy signed a free trade agreement with Canada during his first term? lmao
Picture an economic jester who invests into scalping hockey sticks, only to sell none because the lake never freezes over again.
The dollar is weaker, we must up the austerity tax to hide how badly the dollar is getting hammered.
Me big strong make economy go boom with stick
What a maroon. Auto tariffs are to keep BYD, Geely, and Chery out of the US because they would destroy Tesla. Dairy tariffs were always on the Canadian side and in place to protect Canada from US drug laced dairy, not to block Canadian dairy exports to the US. These actually help the Canadian blockade. Spirits tariff might piss off a few hundred Crown Royal tipplers. Didn't the Supreme Court just rule that Trump's arbitrary tariffs are illegal?
can you expand on the drug laced dairy? never heard of that
0/10
Not billions and billions
is this guy freaking dupid or some thing ?
Nah, he's just the kind of guy who get outsmarted by a pet... rock.
Lookin' for some of that "SCOTUS enforcing its own ruling" "justice" on this one. Not that it's particularly egregious, this seems to be petty tantrum bullshit purposely meant to not matter so no one bothers fighting it, but just because fuck this clown asshole already for fuck's sake
