No American sacrifice is too great.

Israel is a proxy for Western capitalists. They are doing what their masters want: destabilize the region to prevent unified resistance against imperialism.

Which is to say, yes blame Israel, but also American and European governments are just as culpable and must also be dismantled.

The region has no indication of having a tendency to be against imperialism as a principle (only against being themselves victims of it) and even without the White Jewish Supremacist state it wouldn't naturally be unified on account of both the Shia/Sunni split and the fact that those living there are from quite a number of different cultures who often don't see each other in a positive light or as equals.

It's more likely that the motivations of the Western capitalists are simply to steal their Oil, rather than to block some grand imaginary uprising of that region against imperialism.

The Sykes-Picot "Agreement" occurred because the Ottoman Empire had long proved an obstacle to Western imperialism in the region, and colonialist powers wanted to divide it into disparate countries that were almost guaranteed to cause conflict. Both Syria and Libya were destroyed within the last two decades because their governments were explicitly anti-imperialist. Historically, the Levant region has been unified while simultaneously containing multitudes of ethnicities, including Jewish communities that were largely treated better there than in Europe. The Shia/Sunni split largely only concerns Iran, which I don't think would join a unified Levant. The importance of the split itself is also largely overstated by western political theorists because the idea that the region is ungovernable and full of in-fighting is used as a causus belli for western imperialists.

Perhaps the modern people would not unify specifically to overthrow western imperialism (although given the massive negative impact of imperialism, I'm not so sure), but their unification would pose an obstacle to imperialism simply by making them stronger and less vulnerable.

The idea that the Ottoman Empire wasn't imperialist, is hilarious.

The Ottoman's Empire objection to Western imperialism was the self-serving desire of not being a target of it themselves or losing influence in the region.

Going back to my point, most in the region aren't against imperialism in general, they're only against they themselves being the victims of it, which in recent History means being against Western Imperialism, though there has been plenty of Imperialism going on both from nations in that region against other nations there and further afar and from nations from elsewhere than Europe against nations there - after all, the Fertile Crescent (which covers an area were several of the modern nations in that region are) is one of the Cradles Of Civilization so it's hard to find an area of the World more fought over than that.

Being "against the outsiders trying to take our stuff" isn't the kind of unity of purpose that lasts beyond the point when the outsiders stop or are forced to stop trying to take your stuff.

But hey, if you need more indications of that, just look at the 19th and early 20th centuries in the region: it wasn't exactly hard for the British to deploy their usual Divide And Conquer strategy in the region and take over most of the place, the very period you describe as "unified while simultaneously containing multitudes of ethnicities".

More broadly, evidence that the region has no greater tendency for unity than anywhere else in the World can be found in its long History of empires rising and then breaking up and falling there - surely if the Middle East had such a great tendency for unity it wouldn't have literally thousands of years of History of whenever unified or close to it. breaking up into competing groups.

Mind you, I'm not at all against the idea of the region becoming more unified and stopping Western imperialists (or their successors, which will likely be China) from continuing to pillage the region, I just thing that expecting to happen naturally if there was no White Jewish Supremacist nation is Hope rather than a hard nosed look at the Historical record of the region.

You can't convince me the person on the right in that image can see anything wearing that hat like that.

[–] 1hitsong@lemmy.ml 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

The person on the left can't see anything either. They have a black bar covering their eyes.

“When the rich wage war it's the poor who die.”

-Jean-Paul Sartre

"Why don't presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?" ~System of a Down

See, I was able to seem sophisticated by citing Jean-Paul Sartr. This is in spite of the fact that I actually heard the quote from a Linkin Park song.

We've done the same war with poor folk routine since WWII. If you're scratching your head now, you might be a little slow.

[–] Bloomcole@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

Fuck these dead invaders.
No sympathy here

Because killing poor kids is a grand ol' American pastime.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 days ago

The Epstein class told trump to hit Iran. American soldiers are dying so rich old white guys can have sex with tweens. What a farce. What a huge colossal waste. What a great setback for humanity (is humanity still a thing?).

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Eh, only ~~18~~ 14 have died, so no biggie

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Really doubt that number. I would not be surprised if it's 100+.

Many Americans will die but it's a sacrifice Israel is willing to make.

Poor kids always die for the idiocy of the rich/powerful.
