This journalist "travels the world" to understand the pro-Russia viewpoint, finds a hard rejection of the egocentric "West is good guys and everyone else should be assimilated into Western culture and values" and instead of trying to understand it like a actual journalist should, they manage to filter everything they see - everything - through the "how do I reframe this to make me still the good guys" filter. And in so doing, literally every person on the planet who doesn't suck Western dick is cast as gullible, brainwashed, stupid or immoral.

Watching the NYT's influence wither is beautiful.

Reminds me of a Western-coded journo character I'm writing for a story.

His whole shtick is going to a war zone to interview the communist insurgents and pretending to be open-minded and willing to engage with them on an intellectual level - then goes home and lies about them in his newspaper because he's a racist chauvinist piece of shit that cares more about selling papers and pushing ideology than telling the truth.

It's not published yet, but glad you found it interesting enough to inquire! 🥰

You know its bad when NYT starts publishing these kinds of articles, I guess it's time for libs to start calling it New Orc times again.

Great, but how do I read this without paying or subscribing?

This article is hard to read. It's so chauvinistic towards the global south it hurts.

"why are these stupid countries not aligning with the west and becoming neocolonies for us to impose structural adjustments on!!" Crazy how little real politik these rags employ on other nations, but it makes sense when the imperial ambitions set to discredit their actions as little more than brainwashed pawns that daddy empire needs to "save".

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 18 points 1 week ago

Yeah, you can really see how the imperials see the rest of humanity here.

This article is ugly. It reads like the world is build around the western-bourgeois worldview. South Africa stand rather on Russia's side? Well, it was some Russian shit "cultivated" somewhere and a "Thank you" for the time, when the Soviet Union supported something. Typical Africans of course, they can't think for them self and don't recognise basic morality and rather choose Orcs.

Some dude in Armenia is not having a Putin portrait anymore hanging on his wall. Someone in a territory occupied by Israel (normal thing I guess) is happy that Assad is no more.

What are they trying to say, despite non-westerns are stupid? I find it always funny if western "minded" people are confused, if one from Ghana is the same way indifferent to the war in Ukraine, as the common European is indifferent to any war outside western countries.

This thing read like "I visited 10 random countries and asked everytime a random person about Putin." WHAT DO THEY WANT TO SAY, PLEASE HELP ME GOD I DONT GET IT

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 15 points 1 week ago

It's kind of hilarious to read to be honest, they're basically grappling with the fact that it is the west that finds itself increasingly isolate on the global stage.

Yes, the article is just oozing racism, colonialism and western supremacy, you don't even have to squeeze it at all.

Is there any information about the "African women working in Russian drone factories" mentioned in the article? I read the linked article about it but the only evidence they had was anonymous witness statements and a dubious facebook group with 84 members ran by obvious fake accounts.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Almost certainly made up, but the target audience isn't going to question it.

I had a good look for any sources now but it's the same media bullshit where every source links back to another article that links back to another article etc. There's references to videos but I couldn't find any videos. There's a reference to a UN investigation but it turns out it was an out of context quote by a UN spokesperson with no actual investigation or even any information from the UN. The more I look into this the more bullshit there is. The quote is published on the website "Business and Human Rights Resource Centre" which is primarily funded by private philanthropists like the Schmidt Family Foundation (set up by the ex CEO of Google Eric Schmidt). It was honestly just a waste of time, I could have just assumed it was made up.

I guess now we know for sure though. Really shows how low reporting standards are in western media while libs run around presenting it as a paragon of objective reporting.
