I am terrible with names to begin with so I just call everyone "dude", regardless of gender. That includes my wife, father, etc.

[โ€“] Cromalin@hexbear.net 34 points 2 years ago

ok i'm not going to remove this but i need you to understand why people in the transgender comm might not be pleased with this attitude

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 21 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Kinda cringe. I love "dude" and say it a lot because of brainworms, but I am pretty careful with referring to people by it. It has both a potentially unpleasant sound AND is gendered.

[โ€“] Cromalin@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago (1 children)

yeah, there's one transfem friend i have who calls me dude and i call her dude and that's just like a thing we do, but if someone else does it it really raises my hackles even if i don't always tell them

[โ€“] ashinadash@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

Getting called "dude" by a random and just looking at them real shitty-like instead of saying anything.

[โ€“] Alch_Fox@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago

I would rip you a new asshole if you did this to me in person.

[โ€“] Orannis62@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

No thank you

Trying to find a suitable name during my transition was like "Hi! Don't mind all the glitter and sparkles, I'm totally not a faerie....but can I have your name?"

[โ€“] Orannis62@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have 4, kinda-sorta 5. I honestly love this, cis people don't know what they're missing, being tied to one name their whole lives

[โ€“] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 years ago

Oh no, I may be cis but I'm a gamer. I may login to a new name and identity in a heartbeat

No but seriously, you always go by your ign in voip, whether it was xx_bussyslayer_xx or Mordogai

I was attempting to dispute this with my girlfriend and realized that I hit 5 of 7. I quickly withdrew my argument.

Sub a party name for a business name and no one will know the difference.

they forgot video game name

[โ€“] Cromalin@hexbear.net 11 points 2 years ago

my video game name is the same as one of my other names(and it's not the online name)

[โ€“] Owl@hexbear.net 14 points 2 years ago

Just 6? You've gotta get those numbers up. I've got 6 of those too and I'm not even trans. (PS you all know me by #7)

[โ€“] Aru@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I have another name which is the name my mom was going to give me if I was born female, apparently the doctors didn't find out my genitalia until I left my mom's body.

[โ€“] Kuori@hexbear.net 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

i ended up with my would-have-been cis girl name and i love it so much

strong recommend for anyone with cool parent(s)

[โ€“] Des@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

yep that's the one i've picked too! told me my alt name and my sister's alt name and like many things it helped get that egg a cracklin

[โ€“] Kuori@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

hell yeah, it's cool that it got to be part of your process. i only learned mine post-transition, when i was like 2 years in and still functionally nameless lol

[โ€“] Des@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

still super cool though! i am still very much not out to family i often wonder what my mom will say/react lol

[โ€“] Kuori@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

i hope it's nothing but love and support, if and when you feel comfortable crossing that bridge trans-heart

[โ€“] FemboyStalin@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My younger sister ended up getting that name. So I had to come up with a new one.

[โ€“] Kuori@hexbear.net 3 points 2 years ago

the kids these days! no respect for their elders at all

I guess you don't have business name

[โ€“] magi@hexbear.net 5 points 2 years ago

What if you've used several dozen online names? madeline-smug
