Surely the Back the Blue crowd will find this offensive and unpatriotic... right?

[-] rockSlayer@lemmy.world 77 points 1 year ago

They're ok with it, because the only thing they "back the blue" on is killing black people.

Just like every other belief they claim to hold so deeply, they only support cops when doing so is convenient for their narrative.

[-] agressivelyPassive@feddit.de 7 points 1 year ago

Well, this wasn't real police, obviously, but Antifa insurgent double agents, paid by Hillary!!!!!

[-] athos77@kbin.social 71 points 1 year ago

The Capitol cops beat the hell out of innocent J6 protesters, and the videos are finally coming out. [...] The cops should be charged and the protesters should be freed."

Funny how when it was BLM vs the cops, they were cheering for the cops to murder more black people because they were uppity for challenging the status quo.

[-] psvrh@lemmy.ca 30 points 1 year ago

That's how it's supposed to be, and why this is such a challenge for the political Right. For them, the cops are allies, and it was incomprehensible that they would put up any opposition at all.

By and large this has always been the case, the the police are guardians of order and the primacy of capital, and that's the side the Right is almost always on, so it's understandable how precedent would have led them to believe that it'd always be the case.

And they were shocked and hurt to find out that it wasn't.

For the record, they feel the same way about the military.

Yes, and I often point to their hysterical outrage at the shooting of Ashli Babbitt as a prime example of this. Someone breaking and entering the Capitol, with a mob of people that had murderous intent, ends up getting shot and they are apoplectic about this, and still are.

The idea that right wing white people might not be allowed to get away with just about anything absolutely infuriates them to no end. Meanwhile, if a black guy happens to get murdered by a cop for selling loose cigarettes or whatever....well, he had it coming. Or had drugs in his system, or whatever the fuck, who cares, why are we even talking about this?

I get that the military is a heavily conservative organization, but I feel like they'd be surprised that the military wouldn't just let them walk into bases and take orders from them

[-] JustZ@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Their news didn't report on the Joint Chiefs letter either, which said in no uncertain terms that Trump lost the election and would be leaving the White House.

From the article:

Speaking at a rally in Houston, Texas, on November 2, Trump described those incarcerated after the January 6 riot as "hostages, not prisoners." It came after organizers played "Justice for All." It is a rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by the J6 Prison Choir, made up of men imprisoned after the riot, interspersed with Trump reciting the pledge of allegiance.

The depths of stupidity don’t surprise me anymore. If this isn’t an ad for lead abatement, I don’t know what is.

If they're "hostages" isn't that confirmation he was trying to overthrow the government with a non US military?

President Drink Bleach may want all he wants.

[-] ZeroCool@feddit.ch 28 points 1 year ago

President Drink Bleach

Umm excuse me, but he also said we could cure COVID by sticking UV flashlights up our butts.

[-] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 18 points 1 year ago

But I don't want to call him President Doctor UltraViolet Buttplug

[-] MxM111@kbin.social 9 points 1 year ago

That gives him too much honor.

[-] KnowledgeableNip@leminal.space 7 points 1 year ago

Didn't work for COVID but I got a black light back there and some lava lamps and it's really quite cozy.

Unfortunately he has a real chance of winning the presidency and given how his collaborators are laying the groundwork, he might actually be able to get things like this (and far worse).

President Drink Bleach can also DRINK all he wants.

[-] Laughbone@lemmy.world 34 points 1 year ago

Wait, sorry I must of missed something, I thought they were all anti fa working for Soros.

[-] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 19 points 1 year ago

They aren't rioters. They are part of the Occupy Prisons movement.

[-] skozzii@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 year ago

Let's see how many of his supporters want to set a precedent of allowing people to charge police.

Court systems would be clogged up within hours , and there would be very few police left.

[-] stolid_agnostic@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago

I'm actually fine with this as an outcome. Not the court part, but the disappearance of qualified immunity.

[-] mateomaui@reddthat.com 16 points 1 year ago

That’s not even remotely how that works.

[-] Jaysyn@kbin.social 15 points 1 year ago

More projection.

This batch reeks of desperation though.

[-] TheJims@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

I find it amusing that almost three years later he’s finally pretending to give a shit about them.

[-] some_guy 7 points 1 year ago

I mean, when you consider that the protesters were completely peaceful and how the cops rushed in and kicked their asses, this makes complete sense. /s

[-] TWeaK@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

"It's so unfair to call us out for our actions!!"

Edit: Do people not understand that it's pretty clear this article has been brigaded by right wing nutjobs who have scewed the needle to the left, and those are the people I'm mocking?

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I think that graphic they have is rather misleading; you have to click on it and then confirm your selection to see what most people rated it as.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Donald Trump has shared a post on his Truth Social website, calling for Capitol Police officers who "beat the hell out of innocent J6 [January 6] protesters" to face criminal charges.

On January 6, 2021, hundreds of Trump supporters stormed Congress in a bid to prevent Joe Biden's 2020 presidential election victory from being certified.

Brian Sicknick, a Capitol Police officer who collapsed after being assaulted on January 6, died the following day, though a Washington D.C. medical examiner later attributed his death to natural causes.

It is a rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by the J6 Prison Choir, made up of men imprisoned after the riot, interspersed with Trump reciting the pledge of allegiance.

In December 2022 a House Select Committee formed to investigate the Capitol Hill riots attributed the disorder directly to Trump's actions.

Separately the Republican frontrunner is also facing criminal charges in Georgia relating to his efforts to block Biden's election win in the state.

The original article contains 563 words, the summary contains 159 words. Saved 72%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

“Good people on both sides…”

[-] Froyn@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

That's going to go over real well when read back during the insurrection trials.
