Do you remember those playground contraptions that let you shovel up sand?

That shit went crazy.

I believe you get two levers. One of them lowers the scoop and the other does the grabbing motion. You can then rotate around to put the sand somewhere else.

My son is 2 so it means I get to play with these and no one looks at me weird. It’s great.

[-] KobaCumTribute@hexbear.net 37 points 8 months ago

die on this hill

Expected result tbh.

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 27 points 8 months ago

live by the contraption die by the contraption

[-] RNAi@hexbear.net 17 points 8 months ago

Piloting helicopters is not a very usual thing to do for the average person, but yes

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 22 points 8 months ago

the post says modern man not average man checkmate liberals

[-] cRazi_man@lemm.ee 11 points 8 months ago

I'll fite you in in Streetfiter 6. Although if you're already ill then it might not be a fair fite.

Surely cars are also contraptions

Only if it looks like the Hanna-Barbera show about racing cars, you know the one

I can accept that compromise

[-] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 14 points 8 months ago

Wacky Races

Only manual count i guess.

Edit: also i guess that person didn't do much manual labour work.

[-] Omniraptor@lemm.ee 11 points 8 months ago

holy crap we can have Unicode in usernames how am I only seeing this now

[-] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 5 points 8 months ago

Only display name can have unicode though.

[-] Shinhoshi@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 8 months ago

That’s a display name?

[-] ZapataCadabra@hexbear.net 18 points 8 months ago

If you got a Model T or something old. Modern cars are filled with gizmos and gadgets. Even engines are regulated by like 3 computers. It's the gadgetization of life.

[-] thisismyrealname@hexbear.net 13 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

go karts are the outer limit of what can be a contraption imo

[-] SwitchyWitchyandBitchy@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago

The key phrase is gives the experience of riding a contraption.

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 24 points 8 months ago

Doing Jules Verne shit to own the car brains.

[-] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 14 points 8 months ago

Sailing boats?

Is a row boat a contraption?

[-] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 20 points 8 months ago

a sailing boat can be with the pulleys a row boat isn't complicated enough to be a contraption

[-] gramathy@lemmy.ml 10 points 8 months ago

I feel like a contraption needs a continuously moving bit to qualify, and the distinction from a gizmo is whether it’s hand-held or not

[-] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago
[-] Egon@hexbear.net 3 points 8 months ago

Definitely a collection of doohickeys, doodads and gizmos

[-] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 7 points 8 months ago

I think a wind surfer could put in an application to be a contraption. I feel a sailing boat is straight up a vehicle as you could live in one.

[-] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 6 points 8 months ago

ok fair enough it's a vehicle that has contraptions on it though

[-] Egon@hexbear.net 3 points 8 months ago

A bicycle is a vehicle as well though, or am I misunderstanding something?

[-] WhatDoYouMeanPodcast@hexbear.net 2 points 8 months ago

A bicycle tows the line. I'm no expert in contraptions because my schooling and early career helped me work in the adrenochrome factory instead of for Lockheed Martin

[-] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 17 points 8 months ago

a large thingamabob at best

[-] Dr_Gabriel_Aby@hexbear.net 11 points 8 months ago

Not even making a joke here, a small boat would be called a Dinghy

[-] Maturin@hexbear.net 4 points 8 months ago

and a slightly larger boat, a:

Manual transmission cars too. But when you're stuck in traffic it sucks.

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 3 points 8 months ago

Gotta use that handbrake lol.

[-] CrimsonSage@hexbear.net 15 points 8 months ago

I kind of agree with this.

[-] Arbiter@lemm.ee 9 points 8 months ago

People missing the point on this are so funny, like "surely my heated toilet with bidet is a contraption too"
