Maybe he's one of them

That seems like a trend with contemporary TV shows where there is zero desire to properly conclude a story and they just publish as mny seasons as possible.

I have watched the first three episodes today and its really fun. I think I'll finish the season.

Are the comic books better or the show in your opinion?

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 day ago

Akkoma to be precise

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 6 points 1 day ago

Is it like the Watchmen comic books? I read it a long time ago and I didn't get it at that point but I've read that it's supposed to be critical of superhero culture.

Yeah it's independent from the National grid do they don't have to comply with federal regulations. A small price to pay for freedom.

If some president tries to dismantle NATO they are gonna get JFK'd faster than you can say... well, anything.

Is The Boys worth a watch or is it just stupid superhero slop?

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 16 points 1 day ago

Yes I support the troops

I tried watching Nature's Greatest Events last week and it was horrifying. It showed a cuddly polar bear mum and cubs struggling with breaking ice sheets as summer approached in Antarctica. Attenborough remarks how climate change and shrinking ice is making it difficult for polar bears to hunt.

The documentary was shot a decade and a half ago. I hope things aren't much worse them but I felt really really guilty watching that.

I'd like to see him say this on camera rather than have an intern tweet it out

China is conducting a huge military buildup with no transparency

Is there any place that does this transparently? Such a weird accusation.

I have an Odroid N2+ running dietpi and I am wondering which torrent client people use in similar setups.

I have been mostly using transmission my whole life and it works fine but it happens often that the service becomes unresponsive. So I have been looking into alternatives. Trying out qbittorrent now and while it works fine the CPU usage seems too high. Only two active torrents right now and htop reports 60% CPU usage.

Other options available are deluge amd rtorrent so going to look into them later.

Arrival (2016) (lemmygrad.ml)

I have only half-finished it yet but I need to rant.

movie spoilersAliens have landed at 12 locations on Earth. One of them being the USA. American military is working with a pair of scientists--a linguist and a physicist--to figure out their language.

Meanwhile the American public is terrified of these aliens who have done nothing but landed and attempted to communicate. They are mad that the American military has not tried to blow them to smithereens. The baddies--China and Russia--are mounting a military operation against the aliens.

I cannot even...

I am terrible at media criticism. I do not understand the media that I watch at all and I heavily rely on others explaining it to me.

I watched Neon Genesis Evangelion because I really like mechs. It's been a long while so my memory is fuzzy. As it started, I noticed that the overall tone of the anime was more sober and grim than I had anticipated.

In the beginning, I liked it when new Angels revealed themselves. The fights were not the best but I still liked them. I really love the concept of an incomprehensible foe whose secrets are slowly unraveled.

As the show went on though I ended up extremely confused. I realised that the mechs are sort of a side-aspect of the whole thing which was a bit of a bummer. It seemed more about the difficulties of an ill-adjusted Shinji being forced into the role of being humanity's child soldier. Other child soldiers had issues of their own which I did not fully grasp. Even the adult lady whose home Shinji lives in had boy troubles of her own which I did not grasp at all as to how it fit in with the whole theme.

I watched the last few episodes extremely high and was completely lost. You cannot imagine my face when that scene where Shinji fantasises about sex (I think that's what he was doing) came on.

So can someone tell me what the general theme of the show is? If you wanna link to other articles or videos on thiz topic that would be swell as well. I cam understand not wanting to type out about an anime that has been analysed probably more than any other.

I wanna host something like Invidious/Piped on my SBC which can allow me to consume YouTube slop without ads.

Normally my flow for consuming YouTube slop is to download the video using yt-dlp which is then made available via jellyfin. Sometimes I view YouTube videos from my computer's Firefox but today I was shown ads despite uBlock Origin which has left me scarred and deformed (metaphorically).

I would like to run a YouTube frontend on my SBC as a backup. Public instances have not performed well for me. It would also be good for devices that don't let you use adblockers in some capacity.

I have looked at Invidious and Piped. While they are great to use, I found that their stack has a lot of components which I am hoping to avoid since they can be hard to manage.

So I'm wondering if someone here runs something like this locally for private use. Any input is appreciated.

This is the product: Crucial P3 1TB PCIe M.2 2280 SSD

General tech specs

  • Interface: NVMe (PCIe Gen 3 x4)
  • SSD Endurance (TBW): 220TB
  • Form factor: M.2 (2280)
  • SSD series: P3
  • Capacity: 1TB

Speed & timing

  • Sequential Read: 3,500 MB/s
  • Sequential Write: 3,000 MB/s

I never know how to tell with computer parts. There is just so many options. This is the cheapest one I can find for 1TB.

EDIT: This has been postponed due to some… unforeseen problems. Will have to do this at a later time. Sorry for the trouble.

In an effort to encourage our users to read theory instead of dabbling in memes, we will be taking down the image service.

Just kidding. This is a part of server maintenance. While we perform this maintenance, the image service will be unavailable. This means that users won't be able to:

  • view images previously uploaded to Lemmygrad
  • upload images to Lemmygrad

Also, we cannot give a precise timeline for how long this will take because of some unknown variables. I am guessing it can take anywhere between 1 to 4 hours but it's just a guess. We will probably take the image service down in half an hour.

Don't like doing this because the site looks effectively broken but don't have much choice here. So sorry about this. :)

But DO NOT PANIC. We will be reunited with our memes soon enough.

Would have been cool if not for the fact that the FTC is literally the most meek and neutered federal agency. Nvidia is probably gonna say that they will help the military get better at killing brown people overseas and get away with it.
