Just got approved for a new apartment and reading through the lease before signing. They have an addendum that gives them permission (without compensation) to use your name, written statements, likeness in photos, videos, or voice, without exception or limitation, in any kind of marketing materials or social media. It explicitly applies to all residents including minors. It gives them permission to alter these media as they see fit, for all of time, and you waive your right to deny them or sue for libel or violation of privacy.

At the end of the addendum, it does say you have the right to revoke your consent to all of this via written notice. But you are required to sign this addendum. So now I have to write my own legalistic revocation of consent to go with it.

This is an absolute "fuck you" to

  • victims of DV, stalking, or other crimes where they need to keep their identity/living situation confidential

  • people who do not like having their picture taking (enjoying your time at the pool in spite of feeling bad about yourself in a swimsuit? Too bad, everyone can look at you now.)

  • everyone who cares about their privacy for its own sake.

Did I leave anyone out?

Reckless Ben - Bricks and Minifigs - Corporate and Police Coverup Bonanza

Share this everywhere, please help the Mansell family in any way you can. This should be a slam dunk case. I'll try and keep this updated as videos drop.

Support the creators, Reckless Ben, for the amazing and exhausting work going into all of this, funds go to legal fees and helping the Mansell family who were victims of theft by BAM corporate, and the American Fork, UT police coverup.

https://westealfromoldpeople.com/

Key people:

Those who need your support:

  • Bryan Mansell: The collector whose family allegedly consigned the Star Wars LEGO collection to the Salem-Keizer Bricks & Minifigs store. His family is the one allegedly left without the full collection or proper payment.

  • Reckless Ben / Ben Schneider: The YouTube creator who entered the story after the Mansell family reached out. His tactics were provocative and legally risky in places, but they turned the dispute into a national controversy. His exposé so far should be treated as a template, in my opinion, for exposing these greedy, inhuman corporations. Thanks Reagan.

  • Mansell’s Father: The 83-year-old collector who helped build the collection over many years. Due to recent developments in his health, he cannot be unduly stressed as it could be dangerous. His son, with his blessing, was attempting to sell his collection to aid in medical costs (fuck the American healthcare scam, Universal Healthcare let's go). However, because of these developments, Bryan can't even inform his father for worry of aggravating his condition.

  • Chrystal Law-Gorman And Benjamin Gorman: The original Salem-Keizer Bricks & Minifigs franchise operators. They reportedly signed the consignment agreement, handled the collection for months and paid Mansell his share before the store takeover dispute. They have recently put forth evidence that the consignment was allowed according to the franchise agreement they signed as well as they have security camera recordings of BAM corporate agreeing to take on the consignment which is in clear contradictiom to BAM's claims.

Name and Shame

  • BAM Franchising: The corporate parent/franchisor behind Bricks & Minifigs. BAM’s role matters because the company allegedly stepped into the store transition and later argued that the consignment was unauthorized. The company has claimed that everything Ben has shown are lies without putting forth any evidence of their own.

  • Ammon McNeff: CEO of BAM Franchising and the main corporate face of the controversy. His response is central to the leadership criticism because he appears to have focused on distancing corporate from responsibility instead of making Mansell whole. He has outright lied on camera in several instances according to the information presented by Ben.

  • Matt McNeff: COO of BAM Franchising and Ammon McNeff’s brother. He is part of the corporate leadership structure behind the Bricks & Minifigs franchise system.

  • Ki McAllister: Executive Project Manager at BAM Franchising. Security camera footage and recorded phonecalls show that, on behalf of BAM, he accepted the consignment and threatened to use legal pressure to silence the previous owners.

  • Brandon Best: One of the post-transition operators tied to Baker Bricks. He is important because the dispute centers on what happened to the store inventory after the takeover and who controlled the remaining consigned sets. He was present in the security camera footage when the former owners mentioned the consignment as he hurried them out of the location. He held the phone in the security footage while Ki McAllister agreed to take on the consignment as part of the ownership transfer.

  • Joshua Johnson: The other post-transition operator tied to Baker Bricks and American Fork, Utah. He became a major focus after Reckless Ben’s attempts to contact and serve him led to repeated American Fork police involvement. Allegedly, given the evidence Ben presents, convinced the police to arrest Ben for stealing the legos, in which the police execute a search and raid on the residence and arrest all of Ben's friends and himself while present despite finding no evidence of theft.

  • Baker Bricks LLC: The entity tied to Brandon Best and Joshua Johnson after the store transition. Its role matters because it appears connected to the new operation that took over the store after BAM’s intervention.

  • American Fork Police: The Utah police department that became part of the story after repeated interventions involving Ben’s attempts to contact, serve and publicly pressure Joshua Johnson. Their conduct is now one of the most troubling parts of the controversy because it appears biased and retaliatory.

Justice department’s focus seems to be on SPLC’s prior use of paid informants to monitor hate groups, group’s CEO says

The Department of Justice has launched a criminal investigation into the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a prominent civil rights organization, the group’s CEO said on Tuesday.

Bryan Fair, the CEO of the SPLC, said the details of the investigation were not entirely clear, though “the focus appears to be on the SPLC’s prior use of paid confidential informants to gather credible intelligence on extremely violent groups”. Fair said the group used to use paid informants to infiltrate extremist groups and monitor them, but no longer does.

“This use of informants was necessary because we are no stranger to threats of violence. In 1983, our offices were firebombed, and in the years since, there have been countless credible threats against our staff,” he said. “For decades, we engaged in unprecedented litigation to dismantle the Klan and other hate groups. In light of that work, we sought to protect the safety of our staff and the public.”

The investigation comes as the Trump administration has pledged to crack down on non-profit groups opposed to its priorities. Conservative groups have long decried the way the SPLC has labelled certain right-leaning groups as “hate groups”.

Tesla was caught withholding data, lying about it, and misdirecting authorities in the wrongful death case involving Autopilot that it lost this week.

The automaker was undeniably covering up for Autopilot.

Last week, a jury found Tesla partially liable for a wrongful death involving a crash on Autopilot. We now have access to the trial transcripts, which confirm that Tesla was extremely misleading in its attempt to place all the blame on the driver.

The company went as far as to actively withhold critical evidence that explained Autopilot’s performance around the crash. Within about three minutes of the crash, the Model S uploaded a “collision snapshot”—video, CAN‑bus streams, EDR data, etc.—to Tesla’s servers, the “Mothership”, and received an acknowledgement. The vehicle then deleted its local copy, resulting in Tesla being the only entity having access.

What ensued were years of battle to get Tesla to acknowledge that this collision snapshot exists and is relevant to the case.

The police repeatedly attempted to obtain the data from the collision snapshot, but Tesla led the authorities and the plaintiffs on a lengthy journey of deception and misdirection that spanned years.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the conduit for federal funds to NPR and PBS, announced on Friday that it is beginning to wind down its operations given President Trump has signed a law clawing back $1.1 billion in funding for public broadcasting through fiscal year 2027.

The announcement follows a largely party-line vote last month that approved the cuts to public broadcasting as part of a $9 billion rescissions package that also included cuts to foreign aid that was sent by the White House earlier this year. While public media officials had held a glimmer of hope that lawmakers would restore some of the money in the following year, the Senate Appropriations Committee declined to do that on Thursday.

The family members of a U.S. citizen who was taken into custody by federal agents in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday are demanding answers as she was detained while on her way to work.

Andrea Velez, a Cal Poly Pomona grad working in merchandising at a shoe company, had just been dropped off by her mother and sister for the workday when they saw her being taken into custody, adding they had barely even driven a block before the arrest began.

"They didn't have vests that said ICE or anything," said Velez's sister Estrella Rosas. "Their cars didn't have license plates."

She says that her mother was driving away when she looked in her rearview mirror at what was described by police as immigration enforcement.

"In the rear mirror she saw my sister was kinda, like, attacked from the back and she was already on the floor," Rosas said.

Video shows a growing crowd of onlookers yelling as officers surround the 32-year-old woman. Her family members were too scared to get out, as Rosas' mother has residency but not full U.S. citizenship.

They're also worried that Velez may have been holding pepper spray, which they say she always carries in her hand when walking downtown, when agents approached her.

Witnesses told CBS News Los Angeles that no one asked for her identification, but her family believes that it was nothing she actually did that led to her arrest, but rather the way she looks.

"Just because of the color of our skin, they think we're criminals," Rosas said. "My sister was there, so they were like, 'Oh, she looks Hispanic, so let's take her too.'"

As of Tuesday night, they have still not been able to find out where Velez is being held and are worried it could be days before they finally do.

CBS News Los Angeles has reached out to the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement for information on Velez's arrest but has not yet heard back. An inquiry was also made asking how agents check a person's status when they first come into contact, and how they find the people they're targeting in enforcement operations.

Some of the video circulating online, showing Velez's arrest, also shows a group of Los Angeles police who appear to be aiding federal agents in the immigration operations.

Later Tuesday, officers told CBS News Los Angeles that they were called to the area after receiving a 911 call reporting a kidnapping at the location. When they arrived, they say that they saw that a federal immigration operation was underway and stayed to maintain peace because they were concerned by the growing crowd and the federal agents.
