there's literally soviet television adaptations of tolkein. why make this shit?
because as we all know, everything in the soviet union was red with a hammer and sickle on it. there was no civilian culture or pop culture or kids media. everything was military and government-oriented, and above all, russian.
if the lord of the rings had been made in the soviet union, it wouldn't have been a story about how human endeavour could conquer hate and bring about world peace and justice, no nothing like that, it would be regular lord of the rings except "vodka! it comes in pints?" "i never thought i'd die fighting side by side with a kazakh" "what about side by side with a COMЯДDЭ" and then at dawn gandalf wearing an inexplicable red fur hat rides in on a white T-34 holding an AK that shoots light beams as the soviet anthem plays
