Those "keep politics out of x" is so ridiculously ignorant. As if self-censorship is politically neutral 🤦‍♂️ As if avoiding LGBT representation is neutral. Just wait until they discover that Star Wars is political and has always been 😂

My dad loves to say “I hate how political movies are now”, and I’m just like “How many movies have you made me sit through over the years where the main takeaway is ‘The US military and government and all of their policies are awesome and correct.’”

I mean... it's actually kind of disturbing how many there are, The green Berets, Top Gun, Transformers, Black hawk down, some grey area ones like saving private ryan and similar.

Of course, you'd get the other side of the coin with say movies like rambo, apacalypse now Born on the fourth of july etc...

For how much conservatives hate anything LGBTQ showing up in movies, it's weird that they love Top Gun so much. That movie is probably the most homosexual piece of media I've ever had to witness, and I've enjoyed quite a bit of gay porn in my days.

Didn't the first(?) (The one where the main guy finds Bumblebee) movie have the government as the secondary bad guys?

[–] WhoIzDisIz@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And where has that mentality been since?

Not sure. It's been a while since I watched a transformers movie.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Also the Dick Wolf copagenda universe.

I actually liked when Stabler was on SVU way back when - the name being at complete odds with the character's personality alone was pure genius.

Just saw Rambo for the first time. Sylvester Stallone was so good in that PTSD scene at the end.

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Then it was First Blood.

Conservatives tend to be some mix of stupid, cruel, and willfully ignorant. You have to be or the worldview falls apart.

never heard of star wars, but i agree on the rest

That's so interesting. I heard in the post-red scare era a lot of left political commentators turned to sci-fi because it allowed them to commentate without being censored.

Art can defeat the state!

Some has some pretty bad ironic concepts though. Like the expanse in my opinion was a strong version of that. In watching it it really showed the capitalism hell, with the belt clearly representing some level of the working class/the global south.

To me the great irony of it though was after it got canceled, Jeff Bezos personally took towards buying the show and using amazon prime to keep it going.

[–] bufalo1973@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

Not only the Belters. The part where they show the city around the UN building does it too.

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (3 children)
