Could you imagine being this actor (Terry Kiser)?
"We want you to play a dead guy for the entire film. The title character. You have like 10 minutes of being an alive jerk, then you just spend the rest of the movie limp. Lay on sofas and chairs a lot, lean on a few walls, get carried around, do absolutely nothing. Here's your paycheck."
"Wow, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity as an actor to get paid to do nothing!"
"Good news! SEQUEL!"
The role also required a high pain tolerance, as both he and his stunt double were dropped repeatedly while filming and had to stay limp to not ruin the take. I read Kiser ended up with 3 cracked ribs and some nerve issues that took a while to heal from his neck flopping around so much. He more than earned his paycheck.
Well that is way less fun
Compo?
His best known role is portraying a corpse for 2 movies. A gig's a gig!
I thought you meant in addition to Bernie for a sec. I was about to say "talk about typecasting".
No, just Bernie, then Bernie again!
That's the name of my future band. "Bernie Again"
I mean, he did a bang up job of it fwiw, he took the job they usually give extras and turned it into a starring role
I imagine there would have been hours of footage in which the other actors succeeded in making him respond (i.e., what they call “corpsing” in theatre) and they have to retake the scene.
