Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

“It is a sign that people aren’t happy within the U.S. government, clearly. The shooting [of Good] was the last straw for many people," Dominick Skinner, ICE list founder, told The Beast.

Information included in the new leak includes around "1,800 on-the-ground agents and 150 supervisors. Early analysis by the organization suggests that around 80 per cent of the staff identified remain employed by DHS," according to The Beast.

Nuremberg Defense ain't gonna help you fuckers. You better pray the Pedo-in-Chief lives forever because once that clown kicks the bucket and everything shifts back to normalcy... You gestapo assclowns are fffffuuuucccckkkeeeedddd.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 29 points 1 month ago (2 children)

As much as I want to believe that, 35% of the population is brainwashed or brain dead.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 month ago

They're just waiting for it to affect them personally. Some need it merely to inconvenience them, while others need it to have a meaningful impact on them.

But, in the next election, they'll make the same mistake with the next person that fox tells them to vote for.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 weeks ago

And another third are oblivious to anything that doesn't directly and specifically impact their lives right now.

[–] nforminvasion@lemmy.world 23 points 4 weeks ago

Fuck normalcy. Normalcy is how we got here. Neolib capitalism is exactly why we are here. Fascism is often described as imperialism turning inwards. And I get it, compared to this insanity, "normal" looks amazing. But if/when this fascist movement fails, the corporate elite will milk that line of reasoning so fucking hard.

And even if you don't think socialism is a good idea, we at least need SOLID social democracy. Green new deal IMMEDIATELY, universal basic services (water, basic food, internet, heating,...), reduced government overreach into citizens' personal lives, massive taxes on the rich.

The establishment dems are going to champion a return to "normal" so incredibly fervently. We cannot let them suck us back into it. The climate can't take it, the global south absolutely is done with it, the average working class American cannot handle it. We need solid change.

[–] eestileib@lemmy.blahaj.zone 22 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Only if we get a new political party. Democrats will never do it.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 24 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It won't matter, MAGA is a classic Cult of Personality, and when he finally assumes room temperature, they will destroy themselves trying to be the successor. Besides the usual suspects, I just heard even Bannon intends to run in 2028.

They'll eventually be undone by their own virtuosic incompetence. The only problem is the damage they'll do along the way.

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

MAGA may crumble but the issues that created it will still fester and lead to something similar until the people actually get some representation in government.

I've read this exact same prediction after Bush left office and the same after Trump left the first time and here we are again. People always allow themselves to be roped back into believing Republican false promises after four or eight years of hearing the same false promises from Democrats. Neither party is going anywhere until we make new parties comprised of people actually willing to govern for the people, but both Democrats and Republicans want you to belive that they are your only option.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Valid. After the Bush era, I said that if we didn't make them pay for their abuse,.corruption,.and negligence, the next bunch will be worse, and we got Trump.

It's not enough to just let MAGA die, we have to crush it, and actively purge it from our government and our society. It has to be treated like Nazis or the KKK - despised, humiliated, and prohibited.

[–] stringere@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Was the KKK ever prohibited, though? They just made themselves less visible for a while.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 4 weeks ago

The KKK didn't represent a genuine National Security Threat to the Sovereignty of the United States.

[–] untorquer@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

DON'T UNDERESTIMATE FASCISTS.

They're as much attracted to the ideology as they are to the strongman. It gives then an escape from facing their own insecurities and failures. It might be an internal fight but they will find their next man-god.

An opposition will need pressure at that time to take notice and action

[–] StupidBrotherInLaw@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I can't disagree. Democrats: different masks, same masters.

Hand them over to Canada. We have a functioning justice system.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd rather we weren't put in a position to have to fix the Americans problems for them.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

I understand that, I really do, but at this point we have the only functioning justice system on the continent and the most respected correctional service on the planet.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 12 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

I believe United States is in for decades of fascist rule. But if I'm wrong, after the regime falls, most of these thugs will walk among us and we won't even know.

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 weeks ago

They have the whole time. Even if it's not fascist, it will never be safe again.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 weeks ago

I believe United States is in for decades of fascist rule.

It remains to be seen how much tolerance for these abuses the American people have.

So far it's not looking good.

[–] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 1 points 4 weeks ago

Not if we start doxxing them now. Make sure none of these fuckers can ever work again if we ever get out from under this mess.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

As with Nazi Germany, the atrocities were not due to one guy. One Trump more or less won't change anything when 50% of the US feels the murder of Renee Good was justified.

[–] moonshadow@slrpnk.net 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

What makes you think they feel that? I suggest more direct interaction with your community, have not yet encountered that take offline

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca -1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

You really haven't? Because it should be pretty obvious from the lack of any consequences. Same as with the files and the concentration camps. If Americans wanted change, there would be change.

[–] moonshadow@slrpnk.net 1 points 4 weeks ago

In general I'm seeing a whole lot of "oh no, there's nazis now, at least I still have a job/food stamps/papers/whatever"

"This is good, actually" is a wild take I've only seen from the edgiest of teens, and even that not since the doorkicking started

[–] ReHomed@lemmy.cafe 8 points 1 month ago

I eagerly await the day of justice

We cannot let any of these degenerate fucking apes slide through, we have to drag them down to HELL where they BELONG

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 0 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

And the source of this belief is... what? The long history of people like this completely getting away with it? Look up how many people were actually prosecuted at the Nuremberg trials compared to the total number of Nazi's. I'd be extremely surprised if even a single dozen ICE members face any consequences.
