What even is the alt-right anyway? To me it feels like a term that was created by libs a decade ago to just describe fascism.
I think it was created by fash to launder their shit into the mainstream. I.e. Richard Spenser on CNN type shit.
It was a term created by nazis a decade ago to repackage nazism
It was definitely created by fascists, but it was equally useful to libs and "normal" conservatives to pretend that there's some kind of distinction between fascists and mainstream political figures. It was only ever a branding exercise, but now it doesn't even nominally refer to a distinct faction. Anyone who takes it seriously isn't paying attention.
I feel like it cropped up around 2016 to describe the people who held the exact same beliefs as every elected republican but were actually honest about their beliefs instead of starting every sentence with "I'm not racist buuuttt....."
Have to differentiate them from liberal darlings like the fucking Rodney's, McCains, and goddamn Cheyneys.

It was a term used by liberals to just mean conservatives who extra mean and didn't do interviews with liberal journalists.
It was entirely to spread the idea that Mitt Romney style Republicans are normal and worthy of respect, instead of white supremacists who more openly admit to it.
