The first one is a decent game.

But it also went to $20 extremely fast. Pretty much by itself, that takes the pressure off of rushing to buy it.

[–] danhakimi@kbin.social 9 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

I pre-ordered the game.

Then, very quickly, the full game + all DLC was available for $20. And I was annoyed, because the DLC itself barely went on sale at all. I sure as shit am not about to pay more for it, after overpaying in the first place. So what do I get? Zero DLC. Nice.

I learned my lesson. I'm waiting for the sale on part 2. And on this new prince of persia game.

Pre-orders used to come with sweet incentives, since there's otherwise no reason to do it. I've got cool tins, coins, plushies, and even a working mini harmonica from pre-orders I did in the 2000's. Now they give you nothing but a few in-game items if you're lucky. I have no idea why people even do it anymore.

The ONLY two advantages to preordering now are game preloading, and exclusive preorder digital stuff for a game you were already going to buy at full price day one anyway.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I preorder FFXIV expacs because it comes with an accessory to make leveling jobs wicked fast. So it's worth it and a game I know I will play. Other games I wait. Not only do I know it won't be my primary game, but I know not all games are going to be great.

I pre-ordered a game once. It came out 09NOV2010.

Still haven’t played it. Probably never will. The HD remaster is on steam now with mixed reviews.

Never made that mistake again.

/me cries in "Starlink: Battle for Atlas starter pack for Switch" at full price...

I managed to buy mine on sale but not soon enough to get cheap parts... Waited out and found a bulk load being sold for mega cheap at a local warehouse.

The only Mario series that gets more than rare 33% discounts

[–] Carighan@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

The second is a decent follow-up, too. There's some things I wish it hadn't changed while others I wish it had changed more, but honestly, I enjoyed playing it. A lot. Even the DLCs, though they are just more of the same and most will feel it's too samey at that point.

Ubisoft games drop in value super fast

[–] TORFdot0@lemmy.world 13 points 2 years ago

The first game was great but I got it at a steep discount. I have fully intended on getting the sequel but I wasn’t running out to get it at full price with so many games still in my backlog

[–] HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone 11 points 2 years ago

Mario + rabbids had no right being as good as it was. It's cool its getting a bit more notice.

These people and their definition of "flop" perplexes me.

[–] Carighan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

It's what happens when the only people calling the shots are the ones whose personal payment directly scales with "over-success". Anything that just makes money or just does well is a "failure".

[–] anarchyrabbit@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

I also enjoyed playing it.

[–] Maximilious@kbin.social 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yeah cause I got it for $15. Was burned on the first title getting it for $60 then seeing it regularly for $10. I wised up this time.

[–] core@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I'm currently playing it and loving it!

[–] De_Narm@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I rarely buy games that still get DLC. Especially after the first one got a complete edition for 20,-. As far as I'm concerned, the game isn't 'released' properly yet. I sure am eager to play it though, eventually.

[–] Dudewitbow@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

because it released in between Splatoon 3 and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (and to a lesser extent, Bayonetta 3.)

Ubisoft did what EA did with Titanfall 2 (Titanfall 2 was released inbetween Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare.

it was primed to fail at the start., just to make "holiday targets"

[–] meepmeep@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)

My heart breaks every time I'm reminded of how much EA dropped the ball with Titanfall 2 :(

[–] SuperSaiyanSwag@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 years ago

That timeframe was actually picked by Respawn higher ups. Jason Schrier mentioned it on his Twitter few years ago.

[–] yuriy@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Hey just curious, did you like burn cards?

I thought I hated them, but after playing like a hundred hours of titanfall 2 I’m finding that I actually really miss the little complexity they added to individual games. My FOMO brain was constantly worried I’d be hurting for specific bonuses, but they were passed out like fucken candy and I remember almost always having every option I could want.

[–] Cicraft@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Rayman my beloved

[–] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 years ago

Mario with guns though

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I really liked the first one, never finished it though because it just kept going. Bit repetitive and other than the main gameplay I don't know what's going on.

[–] Poggervania@kbin.social 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It’s supposed to be like XCOM, right? Is there a strategic element to it, or is the game only just the fights?

[–] Squizzy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No idea what XCOM is but yeah it's strategic, turn based combat. You get one movement and one attack per turn, and you can mix and match who you use of the three characters.

Each have their own specialities and abilities. Definitely worth playing.

[–] Poggervania@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Oh, you should totally check out XCOM: Enemy Within and XCOM 2 if you found these games interesting.

The main gameplay for the tactical level is the same as Mario + Rabbids; it’s turn-based (you take your turn with your entire squad, then the enemy takes their turn) and you control up to a squad of 6 ~~panic-prone rookies~~ soldiers who have to complete an objective of some sort, usually killing all the aliens on the map. Each soldier can get a different class and choose different abilities as they level up within those classes, so you can sort-of tailor each soldier’s stats with the abilities they’d work best with. The major difference with XCOM is there’s also a strategic layer to it; non-fighting stuff, like managing each country’s panic level, building your base, and researching technology to get more upgrades for your weapons, armor, and fighter jets. Super fun strategy game if you’re into the genre.

[–] Tourma@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

And after UbiSoft's comments the other day, I'll be getting it on ebay.

[–] samus12345@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I got it at launch and liked it well enough, but not as much as the first one.

[–] ExfilBravo@lemmy.world -1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Maybe if Nintendo's greedy ass didn't charge full price for it a year later it would probably sell even better.

[–] Boogiepop@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

Nintendo isn't the publisher and it's actually gone on sale several times.
