Yeah I'm glad there's an episode for that. Ive been saying "parental rights" is a dogwhistle for a looooong time.

dogwhistle

can confirm - my bio dad was a parents' rights and MRA guy who abused me until I was a teen

I really had relatives angry cause my kids didnt want to kiss them and I would not pressure them into it. Like my mom did not talk to me the whole day. Everything is a personal attack to them, even not wanting to kiss people they see once a year.

SAME HERE

I honestly think they were more upset by my complete lack of fucks about it than the perceived insult from my child. Asking "Why in the world would I make him hug you??" like it's the stupid question that it is was very offensive! 😂

to be fair, they did their best to beat defiance out of me when I was small, so I'm sure it was shocking that I wasn't willing to do that to ensure total compliance in the future

Oh yeah, I get that one a lot as well. My mother-in-law just completely refuses to understand that my daughter doesn't want to kiss her, and tries to bribe/threaten her every time. It's genuinely driving me insane, and frankly ruining the relationship my mother-in-law has with her own grandchild. My wife has also gotten in between them a couple of times and tried to tell her mom off.

Parents' rights = children as private property

[-] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 39 points 5 months ago

These people should not be allowed to have kids

[-] the_itsb@hexbear.net 20 points 5 months ago

These are the people who tell childfree folks that they're selfish

Jesus Christ.

In a sane world, a parents rights group would be advocating for parental leave, affordable access to daycare, protections for pregnant women and new moms whose livelihood is threatened by their bosses, etc etc.

The "right" to force your children to kiss other children is adjacent to pedophilia, these people belong in a prison.

geordi-no Parents Rights

geordi-yes Parents Responsibilities

What genuinely has me tweaking is that 99% of this shit is from the so-called “protect the children!!!!” people who don’t actually care at all about protecting children.

This has become (one of) my pet peeve issues. Like honestly what is wrong with these people. Would you ever force an adult to hug or kiss you? Would you ever smack an adult because they were talking back? NO? SO WHY WOULD YOU DO IT TO A SMALL CHILD?

alternatively, if you would do it to an adult, your parents failed you.

This has become (one of) my pet peeve issues.

Working in childcare made this a number one issue for me. The biggest manifestation of it for me personally was parents ignoring their kids obvious needs and parental rights/perogative being used as a shield. Had a couple kids with obvious autism have it neglected, kids with emotional issues, one with a REALLY obvious learning disability. It went on. So many shitty parents in denial.

Too be fair and balanced. In this society we need the parental right to teach our kids that cops are bastards. To keep their mouth shut if someone is stealing from the Walmart. And ignore government propaganda.

Its not a right... its a responsibility. gigachad-hd

I actually especially hate the association these kinds of groups make with peoples' idea of 'homeschooling'.

Homeschooling in itself I'd argue is a very noble and good pursuit if done properly, and does real material good for children. But that requires time, other people, community, etc. When the parent's objective is to isolate children from society and teach them unique ways of inflicting or experiencing sufferance, then obviously no.

I can't stress enough that everything chuds believe in actively facilitates child abuse and grooming.

to act like the purpose of teaching children about boundaries and consent is itself an act of grooming is so utterly backwards and absurd. kids not understanding these concepts is precisely what makes them easy targets for predators. child abusers have no power when the child understands that what's happening is wrong and that it's safe to tell another adult about it

chuds treat children like they're too stupid to possibly understand these concepts. they see children as property who should always trust adult authority figures no matter what. it's a perfect recipe for abuse
