It was established in 1922 as a union of four socialist republics created after the 1917 October Revolution, namely the Russian SFSR, the Transcaucasian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR and Byelorussian SSR. The years that followed saw the addition of the Uzbek and Tajik SSRs; the Transcaucasian SFSR was dissolved in 1936 in favor of the elevated SSRs of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. From 1956 to 1991, the union comprised 15 member republics, two of which had their own member seats at the United Nations.

The USSR represented a groundbreaking political alternative for the working class as the first stable socialist state in history. This was remarkable especially in a time period where workers in the Western world were still struggling for basic union rights; the 1924 Soviet Constitution and the 1936 Soviet Constitution represented some of the most progressive political advancements in history.

The Soviet Union developed under extreme pressure from capitalist states and global imperialism; during the Russian Civil War, starting from 1918, it suffered successive invasions by Britain, France, the United States, Japan, Poland, and several other minor European powers. Some of these interventions temporarily succeeded in overthrowing local soviets and installing anti-communist puppet regimes, although they were ultimately unsuccessful in preventing the founding of the Soviet Union.

Barely two decades later, during World War II, the Nazi invasion represented the second imperialist war on the USSR, this time in the name of fascism. Although the fascists inflicted catastrophic damage on the western USSR and its population, the Red Army ultimately succeeded in repelling the Nazi forces and went on to play an integral role in the defeat of German Nazism in 1945.

Despite these difficulties, the Soviet Union achieved some of the most impressive economic developments in modern history. Socialism transformed a country of illiterate and starving peasants into an industrial superpower with one of the fastest growing economies on Earth. The Soviet people were one of the world's best-educated and healthiest populations, responsible for some of history's most impressive industrial and scientific achievements to date. And it provided a very influential model for other later socialist projects in places such as China, Cuba and Vietnam.

Starting from 1988, many SSRs seceded from the USSR before its illegal overthrow in 1991. Its past territory is now occupied by the successor states of Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, Pridnestrovie, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Artsakh, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

Been going over the warranty my parents got for the used truck they bought, figure best go over now when everything good instead of 3 am or whatever. Got a good idea what's covered now though I was hoping my specific issue would be there. Oil filter housing stuck so can't really change the paper filter, took it to a place too and nope. This not being something listed in the warranty means means it's out of pocket still worth looking thru

Shoutout to the drunk college kids in my neighborhood going into my apartment lobby and ringing every buzzer. As someone who just worked a hell shift on what should be my day off cause I work kitchens and it's new years. It really was cool as hell to get unexpected loud buzzing noises. Scaring my cat was fucking dope. Truly a sick prank. College has to be really fucking easy if these dipshits are consistently getting through

I am not that fucked up, relative to other people who still find success in their lives, but I don't know how to fix what I am. I don't want to be a loser anymore

I think I'm going to brainstorm new account names and finally try to make a new account here. I'm not very clever and I can't think of a better name (low bar), but it's kind of of overdue. Might even take an actual break and touch-grass but idk

The Outer Wilds song was just a cute and fun little ditty until I beat the game and now when I hear it I start crying. Funny how emotional attachment works.

my shower sucks so fucking much

a) it didn't even run when i moved in, went 2 weeks w/o because who the fuck checks a shower on an apartment inspection? (me its going to be me for the rest of my life i have no trust anymore)

b) hot water pressure is inexplicably 60% lower from an already modest level

c) hot water lasts, on average, 3 minutes. But not consistently! It's absolutely fucking random if i get 15 mins, 0 mins, sometimes if i run another hot water appliance before i.e. dishwasher, it lasts longer?? complete nonsense, and this hot water heater is in-unit, not shared just monke-beepboop all around

d) what the fuck will maintenance do? it's technically functional, the heater is maxed out, they have no legal obligation to fix it. i can summon them to troubleshoot but i doubt they'll do anything and it means i have to keep my place tip top presentable for over a week in case they drop in

This is a pretty good video for beginners to pokemon go

I'd also watch this video on quick catching (https://youtu.be/nSj-9aHRECg) it will save you a lot of time, especially for community days

I'd also learn to catch using curveballs, they give you extra xp and youre more likely to catch with a them. Also practice excellent throws early on, they give you 1000 xp (sometimes doubled) and a catch bonus.

Make sure you do the research tasks, accessible by hitting the binocular icon. You get one stamp per day for completing tasks and a weekly reward for 7 stamps.

There's also special research in the area as the research tasks, you can unlock exclusive legendaries from some and theyre generally worth doing

I don't want to bombard you with too much information for now but if you start playing and want any advice I'll do my best to help blob-no-thoughts

End of the year self reflection: I love people and dynamic communities of people being together. Whenever I traveled before with friends or family, they always wanted to see museums and palaces while I wanted to just walk around neighbourhoods and see how people lived. I especially love commie blocks because they’re often build to foster community and on every balcony you see a different play of a family or person living their life.

When I was young I had this picture book of a gnome community in which every little detail about the community was explained with beautiful drawings. It included descriptions of workers and how their work contributes to the community. I think that’s a wonderful idea for a (children’s) book. I’d love to read such a book about ant communities.

Saw the game MiSide get overwhelmingly positive reviews. Bought it and tried it.

10 minutes in the lights go off, I'm being given a list of arbitrary items to look for and there's creepy writing on the walls.

Apparently we're just doing Slenderman The Lost Pages again in 2024. Easy refund.

A scientist has proven the existence of at least one god, and made a device that allows them to be spoken to. This is an excerpt from that conversation.

You're going to have to be a little more specific. I exist outside of time.

Oh, I see. Well, I'm a human being from Earth in the twenty-first century-

Oh shit, I'm so sorry.

Huh?

I'm sorry to hear that you're from the 21st century. Most of the people that I talk to are from what you consider to be the future.

Could you elaborate?

Well, after the Communists finally defeat Neo-Capitalism in World War Four, all of Earth is united by a single government. Soon thereafter they fully transition the last of the world's markets to needs-based distribution of resources, finally achieving the Second Utopia. A hundred years later they embark upon a societal mega project which comes to be known as "The Great Merging," connecting every human brain to a single globe-spanning network.

So they give up their individuality and become a hive mind?

Not quite, it's more flexible than that. They retain their individuality but also benefit from the connection to all other people on the network. Many people opt out at first but once everyone on the network achieves immortality so-called "disconnected people" become a thing of the past, and by the time life in the Milky Way goes extinct those people number less than one thousandth of one percent of all of the sentient life that ever existed there.

Wow.

So that makes you among the least-lucky people who will ever exist. Sorry about that.

Got in the gym for the first time in a little while and it was real nice. I hurt my back the previous time I'd gone and then the snow started, so I basically stopped working out for a month. My muscles were definitely getting smaller, but I didn't lose as much strength as I was scared of. Also it was wicked fucking good for my mood. I know there are a lot of factors contributing to me feeling like dogshit recently, but not exercising is definitely one of them - and one that is tractable.

I just saw a gender reveal party that was two amateur WWE-style wrestlers. One was a short person and the other was a rotund man.

I simply didn't feel bad about it. It seemed like a cute performance and an excuse for the two actors to perform. I guess it feeds into cishernormativity which is harmful, but the harm seems so secondary to having a baby shower/an excuse to get together and giving the wrestlers some love. Do you know what I mean? Thoughts?

Me and the boys move with grace.

We got humility, we got reserve.

Our presence is known, it's a welcoming space.

But the ice is drippy and the gold is deserved.
