It was established in 1922 as a union of four socialist republics created after the 1917 October Revolution, namely the Russian SFSR, the Transcaucasian SFSR, the Ukrainian SSR and Byelorussian SSR. The years that followed saw the addition of the Uzbek and Tajik SSRs; the Transcaucasian SFSR was dissolved in 1936 in favor of the elevated SSRs of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. From 1956 to 1991, the union comprised 15 member republics, two of which had their own member seats at the United Nations.

The USSR represented a groundbreaking political alternative for the working class as the first stable socialist state in history. This was remarkable especially in a time period where workers in the Western world were still struggling for basic union rights; the 1924 Soviet Constitution and the 1936 Soviet Constitution represented some of the most progressive political advancements in history.

The Soviet Union developed under extreme pressure from capitalist states and global imperialism; during the Russian Civil War, starting from 1918, it suffered successive invasions by Britain, France, the United States, Japan, Poland, and several other minor European powers. Some of these interventions temporarily succeeded in overthrowing local soviets and installing anti-communist puppet regimes, although they were ultimately unsuccessful in preventing the founding of the Soviet Union.

Barely two decades later, during World War II, the Nazi invasion represented the second imperialist war on the USSR, this time in the name of fascism. Although the fascists inflicted catastrophic damage on the western USSR and its population, the Red Army ultimately succeeded in repelling the Nazi forces and went on to play an integral role in the defeat of German Nazism in 1945.

Despite these difficulties, the Soviet Union achieved some of the most impressive economic developments in modern history. Socialism transformed a country of illiterate and starving peasants into an industrial superpower with one of the fastest growing economies on Earth. The Soviet people were one of the world's best-educated and healthiest populations, responsible for some of history's most impressive industrial and scientific achievements to date. And it provided a very influential model for other later socialist projects in places such as China, Cuba and Vietnam.

Starting from 1988, many SSRs seceded from the USSR before its illegal overthrow in 1991. Its past territory is now occupied by the successor states of Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, Pridnestrovie, Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Artsakh, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

In recognition of the recent deep-nesting , I propose we rename hexbear after it's two competing demographics: Cumtown listeners and Tumblr posters. We can call it: CUMBLR

[-] blipblip@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago

If I'm neither does that make me a hexbear centrist? Fuck...

[-] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 18 points 4 days ago

Post about bird flu with lots of comments removed from /c/chapotraphouse because “wrong community”?

Is chapotraphouse not the general purpose community? Are we now locking any discussion of disease to specific comms?

Is it because it was a screenshot of a tweet? Screenshots of tweets are what this website was built on and most of what that comm is.

I’m very confused.

[-] amberSuperMario@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 4 days ago

Maybe they mean it goes in slop? I do wish that mods would say what the right community is when they remove posts for being in the wrong one.

If this is supposed to be the greatest country in the world, why is it that there doesn't seem to be anywhere within driving distance where I can walk in and purchase a bidet and walk out of the store with it? Hmmm? Admit it, this is a failed state.

Now I understand. I am not a fucking lib. Moderators on here need to get to know me. Moderators on here should know I’m 48 and I’ve not been a lib ever. I was totally born a man who likes to have sex with other men. I’m a gay communist. If your communist ideals hate on me because I’m gay, I’ll just hunt you down and kill you. I have weapons. Already found the ip address of the fellow who moderates this shit. Some of us super removeds really like murder as an option. Nothing like putting down a breeder lib.

Oh my god best new tagline.

I refuse to believe anyone has ever watched a Mr beast video. It’s an elaborate meta prank to see if people would believe that Mr beast and his fandom exists (they don’t).

Knee-deep in a .world thread on Communism, and it isn't even that toxic or hostile, just extremely ignorant, in an almost surprising way compared to normal .world threads. Genuinely perplexing.

Don't get me wrong, .world threads are always ignorant about Communism, but this is especially goofy lol. This is the clearest example of people legitimately refusing to read anything and just up or downvoting based on vibes, normally I can get through to people a bit but it's extremely strange.

Happy New Year, especially to the haters, losers, and Marxists trying to ruin our country

[-] viva_la_juche@hexbear.net 11 points 4 days ago

New year, same bullshit dealing with healthcare companies with my stroke victim mil. Now they want us to do a co-pay for every therapy visit. It’ll by like an extra 700 a month.

A pox of a thousand Luigi’s on these mfs

Shoutout to the drunk college kids in my neighborhood going into my apartment lobby and ringing every buzzer. As someone who just worked a hell shift on what should be my day off cause I work kitchens and it's new years. It really was cool as hell to get unexpected loud buzzing noises. Scaring my cat was fucking dope. Truly a sick prank. College has to be really fucking easy if these dipshits are consistently getting through

Uh... mixed end to 2024 and start to 2025.

-Got a response from muy old friend and my crush. My friends response was a bit muted, but appreciated. My crush ended up flooding me with texts though lol.

-But while we were texting I got home and my dad was in bed not feeling well. Took a quick shower and by the time I finished by brother had called an ambulance for him. Thankfully he's already feeling a lot better, but he's still in the hospital. New Year hit just as my mom and I were headed to the hospital to take some stuff for my brother and dad.

Oh and I also got to see an apartment that looked alright. Strongly considering it. So yeah... Happy New Year comradesvery-normal

In preparation for the "Cowbee reads Capital arc," I have been trying to find out which translation is best, and I can't find any conclusive opinions on the recent Reitter version. It's the one I'm most curious about! I can always fall back to Fowkes, but I'm hoping the Reitter version is better.

I love when recruiters give obviously self-contradicting advice for applying to jobs. "resumes are reviewed in under 30 seconds so make it eye catching" "check for spelling and grammar errors or your resume gets tossed" sorry, I do not believe you are doing a grammar check for a resume in under 30 seconds.

Found out my mother just bought herself another iPad. Literally keeps buying shit she doesn't know how to use and doesn't need and then goes "it makes me happy" like the biggest fucking loser. Bought a shitty Intel Atom laptop she doesn't need last year that runs like shit when she had an Air that worked and works perfectly fine minus all the bloatware she put onto it. Her iPhone has like 300 apps installed on it and it takes her like 10 seconds to find anything because she installs every app she can find for some reason.

I'm not opposed to her buying shit she actually needs, but she squanders it on digital junk. Could have gotten herself something useful and nice but instead hemorrhages money on this stuff.

A party in which everyone brings one guacamole ingredient: a ripe avocado, a tomato, a garlic clove, a lime. As each person arrives, their ingredient is mashed into the guacamole as everyone else is enjoying the guacamole. The guacamole is then constantly replenished over the party.

Call it the
