The Trudeau government officially inaugurated Canada’s “Memorial to the Victims of Communism” earlier this month. However, no member of the Liberal government was allowed to show their face at the ceremony, for fear it would once again draw public attention to the Canadian state’s longstanding and ongoing patronage of fascist forces.

That's how you know you're doing the right thing, when you don't want anybody to acknowledge it exists

In a damning political admission, the Department of Canadian Heritage previously removed all the names listed on the “Victims of Communism” memorial wall. The move followed the release of a government-commissioned report calling for the removal of the names of over 300 individuals—more than half of the total inscribed on the monument—who were directly or potentially linked to the Nazis or the fascist organizations that collaborated with them during World War Two.

How you REALLY know you're doing the right thing

Should've just ordered the list by their rank in the Nazi army while you were at it

Department of Canadian Heritage

What do you suppose they do all day

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 39 points 5 months ago

I assume they just quietly hide whatever Canada's latest shame is

What is the memorial even if there are no names on it?

"Communism is not ok (fascism is though)"

[–] Vientanh@hexbear.net 14 points 5 months ago

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 54 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It's accurate now, there are no victims of Communism

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 21 points 5 months ago (1 children)

but won't somebody think of nazis and kulaks?

[–] GIRobot@hexbear.net 15 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I think about nazis and their allies all the time, friend ☆ Yσɠƚԋσʂ ☆. I think about how much I want to kill nazis. Would you like to kill nazis with me?

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 10 points 5 months ago

let's just say I'm not gonna be broken up about nazis getting what they deserve

No member of the liberal government was allowed to show face there? What do you mean? It's a free country, surely?

[–] btfod@hexbear.net 23 points 5 months ago

I just finished that episode of Expats & Allies about the OUN and it planted the seed in my mind that this is all being shuttered rapidly, clumsily, and publicly with the list of names being explicitly shielded from records requests not just because of the embarrassment at how many were obvious Nazi war criminals (which is pretty obvious at this point and a national embarrassment) but because to reveal the actual details and names at this stage would unearth something even more embarrassing and potentially destabilizing about the active role the state played in shielding Nazis from European war crime tribunals so they could use them to undermine domestic socialist /trade union organizations or even bolster anti-Semitic groups.

basically, that that this story isn't the really embarrassing revelation... its just where the current government is applying the tourniquet and amputating because where it could go is far darker and monstrous.

I suspect another aspect of it is that many people in the current political mainstream have direct family ties to these nazis. Freeland is a perfect example.

New toilet has opened up lol

What's funny about this is it will cause the chuds in KKKlanada to scream about how Trudeau is a communist sympathizer, because he's erasing these "victims" from all important monuments.

So there will be zero "Victims of Communism"?

[–] yogthos@lemmy.ml 8 points 5 months ago

a historically accurate monument
