I'm so fucking scared. They've inhibited our movement by fucking with passports, they've defined us as dishonest and dishonorable in the EO kick us out of the military, they've codified the notion that our gender identity constitutes sexual deviance and poses a threat to children, they've attacked proven life-saving care, with a focus on children and an impact on adults.

and now they're trying to book-burn us out of existence.

this is systematic dehumanization, the track record of which is grim.

There's just straight up not enough of us to do this on our own.

If people don't start standing up for us, we're fucked.

[–] Xanthobilly@lemmy.world 36 points 1 week ago (13 children)

Wait, how did they mess with passports?

[–] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 77 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There was a story about how they wouldn't renew some transgender persons passport the other day.

[–] fadingembers@lemmy.blahaj.zone 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They confiscated it, wouldn't give it back and were threatening to arrest her. There are also reports of trans people that were renewing their passports by mail and told they wouldn't be getting them back.

They are stealing the documents of trans people who go to get new documents including passports, leaving them without identifying paperwork (and identified by the authorities by the paperwork they lost) in a time where that is very convenient for the people in power, and threatening them with arrest if they ask for them back. In addition to what has been said already

non-binary people had been getting “X“ instead of M or F on their passport. The Trump administration will no longer allow those passports to be issued

[–] RubberElectrons@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago

Seems to be more than that, one person was outright refused any passport, even male, and were threatened with arrest if they asked any more questions. All paperwork (birth certificate etc) was kept by the office in LA.

They’re refusing to issue passports to people who have had their gender marker legally changed, and some bigoted employees have been illegally confiscating documents (like birth certificates and social security cards) from those who try anyways.

So if your drivers license gender marker doesn’t match your birth certificate, they’ll refuse to issue the passport, and there’s a non-zero chance that the person behind the desk will steal both when you try to apply. So now you don’t have a passport and you need to go through the arduous process of getting all new ID paperwork just to prove who you are.

[–] triptrapper@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

From my sister about my 17y.o. trans niece: "Unfortunately, [niece] had a children's passport (expired now), so she's in the group who would not be able to get a passport anymore because her birth certificate and social security don't currently match each other and don't match her passport records."

An attack on science is an attack on us all. They are trying to erase science they dont agree with. This is Christian fascism - welcome to giliad.

Anyone in the US please organise - join an anti religious influence group, protest, disobey. You must fight back.

Back up everything. Don't let it be memory-holed! Holy crap.

[–] zephorah@lemm.ee 34 points 1 week ago

This needs more upvotes. Granted, the time to back up everything was when project 2025 hit the internet last year.

The first books the Nazis burned were scientific research notes about trans people.

[–] Doorbook@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

The first books the Nazis burned were scientific research notes about trans people

Impressive that it is actually true, I thought it is an exaggeration. From Wikipedia:

On 30 January 1933, Adolf Hitler, the leader of the Nazi Party, came to power

On 6 May 1933, a group of students ... the students proceeded to shout "Brenne Hirschfeld!" ("Burn Hirschfeld!") while ransacking and vandalizing the Institute, tearing pictures from the walls, pouring inkwells onto carpets, and destroying exhibitions while the band played outside.

[–] Objection@lemmy.ml 24 points 1 week ago

Yeah, when they teach about book burnings they never mention that fact. It also serves as a reminder that trans people are not just a modern phenomenon. The Nazis' reasons for targeting trans people then are the same as right-wingers today, they look for a small, marginalized group and seize on existing prejudice to sow division and divide and conquer. The Nazis claimed trans people were a Jewish plot to weaken and destroy the Ayran race, and you can still see echos of that in some right-wing rhetoric today.

And just like that sci-hub will be even more useful

[–] uranibaba@lemmy.world 43 points 1 week ago

There is also annas-archive.

[–] NocturnalEngineer@lemmy.world 80 points 1 week ago

Oh look...

The US is embedding a totalitarian theonomic government. A new, (soon to be) militarized, hierarchy regime of religious fanaticism and newly created social classes, in which DEI is being brutally subjugated.

I swear I've seen this show before...

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 78 points 1 week ago (3 children)

So much money wasted modifying all these documents.

“forbidden terms”

...must be that "free speech" I keep hearing about. This is obviously a first amendment issue, right?

Right?

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 45 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

to be fair you've been hearing about it from this troglodyte:

Don't they know just because you've banned a word, doesn't mean that the item or thing automatically poofs out of existence?

This is that easy. There's a few words I'd love to ban. How about Elmo? And Turd

[–] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 41 points 1 week ago

It makes it harder to pursue science when you cannot use the terns others in ypur field use.

[–] dustyData@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is a 21st century version of book burning.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

This is Project 2025 in action.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 30 points 1 week ago

Unfortunately, this kind of control of language does work in the long term.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago

Wiping trans people from existence is easier for them to do when nobody is allowed to talk about them.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago

It's just the first step. You don't acknowledge they exist on paper or in speech. That makes it much easier to turn against them physically. It's still up in the air whether or not they take the final steps of making their existence illegal. I think they will.

[–] MeaanBeaan@lemmy.world 35 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Since when does the CDC have the authority to do this in the first place? If the CDC can't effectively police actions during a global pandemic they sure as shit shouldn't have to authority to control the terminology used in medical research.

This is pretty dumb even by trump standards. You would think the right of all people would know that trying to ban terms will just result in new euphemisms and jargon being created.

Most of the research caught up is probably going to be using the terms incidentally (for instance, a drug study that happens to mention participants were AMAB) and this will cause a bunch of paperwork and probably just end up being changed to something like "gametically" or "chromosomally".

I think the endgame is to tear down anything tax dollars have touched. Which, you know, is plausible since his entire platform could be simply summed up as a giant middle finger.

Expect them to attempt to torch more than our science databases
