Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

i know it's lib but I was dreading this shit starting to mess with the weather services. One of the undeniably good functions of this government, and i'm not just saying that because im a weather nerd and storm spotter.

Like if they take down the NWS site holy fuck. I know the heritage project wants to paywall it, likely in service to Accuweather. I long ago stopped looking at weather underground and just go straight to the source. There's also a great app on f-droid called Wx which just plugs directly into it and organizes everything for mobile. It's just juicy data, GOES sat, all the radars, convective outlook, walls-of-text from forecasters (that i read in my head like a 1890s telegraph), and that lovely circa 2008 web format style.

i know it's lib...

I don't think it's lib at all. Trump and his cronies want chaos and destruction. They are intentionally breaking everything in DC. It's scary.

Yeah really torn between "some of this will benefit the world when the U.S. Empire dies" and "it might actually result in a more violently fascist, pissed off Network State that can blacken the sky with killdrones to genocide the Western Hemisphere"

I do think if they fuck something up severely enough to cut SS/medicare/foodstamps we will actually see real riots. All the procedural illegal norms shit is one thing but if everyone gets hit in the material conditions it might go bad very quickly.

And every important person in or connected to the democratic party will lecture Americans on the importance of "peaceful protests". I wonder what they'll say if they, themselves, are the targets for violence or even execution. I guess at that point they'll drop the "peaceful" stuff.

If things reach this point, much like the Kadets and Trudoviks in Russia, that brand of libs will become irrelevant in the face of mass popular unrest, and then they die or go into exile to become insufferable opinion columnists

go into exile to become insufferable opinion columnists

Hello, I'm Resistance Mike and welcome to my Substack. Sorry, I will not using my full name for the safety and security of me and my Canadian wife. Now that we fled the US and are safely in Canada - I can inform you unfettered at a safe remove from the tyranny of The Orange Buffoon. First though I need to ask a favor. To continue in my efforts I'm asking for a small donation...

that brand of libs will become irrelevant in the face of mass popular unrest, and then they die or go into exile to become insufferable opinion columnists

they'll just pretend they were republicans all along, just like how republicans pretend they were against the iraq war all along, or against outsourcing all along, or how libs also say they liked toxic masculinity all along

I think he wants riots. He wants to redo 2020 but "win this time". He wants to massacre protesters and then massacre the rioters. He has a massive police and military force on hand. In combination with rewinning the presidency and surviving assassination attempts, he's riding very high.

yeah, the current collapse is not the version that crumbles with a minimum of collateral damage to the rest of the world. this is the flailing, wounded animal thrashing around in a china shop smashing everything within reach on its way down.

I'm also a weather nerd. worked in and around ag for almost 2 decades. want to retire to my kitchen garden and live seasonally in my sunset years.

I dread what is waiting for us all on the other side of a dismantled NWS. it is one of the great achievements of modernity and already was critical before we locked ourselves into the worst climate destabilization models.

santorun was working for AccuWeather when he wanted to privatize it all 10 years ago and that was a fringe position among conservative Republicans. but now that the wrecking ball is swinging, it seems like everything is on the menu except, prisons, police and war.

It actually really sucks to think about how all these things are going bye-bye, tbh.

Book burnings are for Europeans; America deletes!

Like if they take down the NWS site

We are back

https://www.weather.gov/

https://gml.noaa.gov/

It had always been a scheduled maintenance for Boulder, CO server. https://x.com/NOAAGML/status/1887262419342532836 It is just unfortunate timing that Elon and his clowns decided to raid the Maryland NOAA office the day before (they couldn't even raid the correct building lol)

[–] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 42 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

From my limited understanding (dated an oceanographer for like a month), pretty sure this cripples them almost entirely. Like, pretty sure most projects are done via international collaborations since oceans/weather don't stop at the border

Each and every day is a tsunami of horrible batshit news. This is crazy.

According to another source and the NOAA, the incommunicado orders extend to the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). In addition to gathering data from across the federal government, NESDIS relies on a wide range of international partners. NESDIS’s weather and climate data is essential not only to air transportation safety, but to combat drought, monitor coral reef destruction, and safeguard railway shipping carriers against dangerous weather.

Each and every day is a tsunami

in the near future this could be the case, but we won't know

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago

Oh, fuck - that got dark.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Might be time to get into capturing satellite imagery.

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

Isn't there someone connected to the real economy inside the regime who knows how bad this will be for business?

This fucks with aviation, shipping, agriculture, planning fascist rallies... there must be someone in Washington who realises how self-destructive this is.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

You mean, "The nerd." doomer

[–] DamarcusArt@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 1 week ago

If the weather institutes are completely destroyed, it becomes much easier to blame immigants of teh gays for the weather.

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

I just saw it a minute ago. Yes, I'm posting in the right thread.

NSFW - thirst trap with a punchline

[–] adultswim_antifa@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago

Is this simply because they have some satellites and Elon owns SpaceX?
