I’m gone from the ecosystem for this. Been standing up for the products since Apple II.

This is your shame:

Come join !organicmaps@sopuli.xyz

I will be buying fairphone, framework and pinetime instead of Apple stuff.

[–] Dil@is.hardlywork.ing 12 points 1 month ago

I miss when modular phones were almost a thing, then google bought them and scrapped them

[–] heavydust@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Same here. They pushed more and more privacy-invasive features without the user's consent, Tim is sucking Trump's dick, and they went crazy with their shitty AI. I used to buy refurbished iPhone because it was good and cheap, but there is no reason for me to stay now if it's the same crap as Google in a prettier package. Fairphone it is.

Can we report incorrect data until they fix it?

Edit: yup, easy process.

[–] allywilson@lemmy.ml 16 points 1 month ago

I just left a review for it on Google Maps claiming it's the best Mexican Gulf.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Apple doesn’t listen to feedback much.

[–] astrsk@fedia.io 12 points 1 month ago

Ah, yeah, we shouldn’t try then.

[–] ClassifiedPancake@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They have been correcting all my map reports pretty consistently. But I’m suspecting this one will be different.

[–] Oiselarius@dice.camp 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

@ClassifiedPancake @Sunshine @apple_enthusiast they really, really need to ditch Cook and get back to their roots.

I don't believe Apple will ever go back to that. They have become too big.

[–] Oiselarius@dice.camp 3 points 1 month ago

@ClassifiedPancake @Sunshine @apple_enthusiast I’ve tried to report it and haven’t found a way through their category questions to say something, particularly a natural geographical feature, is mislabeled, only that some location is missing from the maps.

I like your style.

I removed Google Maps when they did this, now I’m going to not want to use Apple Maps… guess I’ll be trying Organic Maps a shot. Anyone have experience or recommendations for others?

[–] rikyu@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Organic Maps is what you should’ve been using already.

[–] v3ritas@infosec.pub 2 points 1 month ago

You’re right. It’s definitely long overdue to be using Organic.

[–] Grunt4019@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

What do you do if you want traffic info?

[–] thynecaptain@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Organic I’ve been using today. I like it a lot, only downside I have is barely an issue which is for CarPlay it doesn’t allow a Split View on the CarPlay home screen only when the app is open instead. Nonetheless it’s great

[–] v3ritas@infosec.pub 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It works well enough for turn-by-turn? Any of the other features I could take or leave, just need the direction part because I have no sense of direction 🙃

[–] thynecaptain@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Turn by turn was solid after a few days of use now. I like it

[–] v3ritas@infosec.pub 1 points 1 month ago

Thanks! I’ll be giving it a shot soon, to get used to it.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why the global rollout if the rest of the world doesn't agree with the change? Just to please Trump?

[–] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago

Amerikans are salivating at the idea of appeasing their new dictator and vice dictator. Every company is lining up to show fealty.

[–] BroBot9000@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Apple goose stepping away

[–] B0rax@feddit.org 8 points 1 month ago

Same as google…

[–] some_guy 8 points 1 month ago

Google was geofencing this to USA devices. Tim Apple, I used to like you. But you’re a fucking bitch.

[–] cabillaud@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This reminds me of the freedom fries. Excepted that they weren't so successful with the freedom fries.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] Ace_CLE@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

All of them. They all changed it because of the NGIS data was changed. The name change for Denali back to Mountain McKinley is coming. This just highlights the need for FOSS alternatives in software.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Thank god they didn't pull a Google and it's still Gulf of Mexico outside the US. Don't give me that (Gulf of America) BS

Edit: I'm an idiot and didn't read the full title. Wtf?

[–] Paul_Harts@mastodon.nl 1 points 1 month ago

@NotSteve_ @Sunshine that why I didn’t get the fuss.

Here in the Emirates; if I use Apple Maps, it still is “Gulf of Mexico”. So I thought you’re all lying! And making Tim and Trump look bad.

But now I get it.

BTW: Apple calls the Arabian Gulf the Persian Gulf.
Not nice.
