Summary

Bradley Bartell, a Trump voter from Wisconsin, started a GoFundMe to raise $3,000 for his wife Camila Muñoz’s bond after ICE detained her.

Muñoz, a Peruvian citizen, overstayed her work-study visa due to the pandemic and was seeking legal residency as Bartell’s spouse. She was arrested returning from a honeymoon in Puerto Rico.

Bartell continues to maintain that he does not regret voting for Trump.

Since Trump’s return to office, ICE has arrested over 90,000 immigrants.

The only thing I would donate to this dipshit is my debt lol

Hmmm I sincerely doubt any money raised by this bigot would go to free his wife...

Doesn't regret voting for Trump but wants help getting bond money. picardFacePalm.jpg

Didn't he just say he had no regrets about voting him in?

Never underestimate the amount of cognitive dissonance to be found in the average Trump supporter's views. These are remarkably dumb people.

That's doublethink. Cognitive dissonance is the discomfort you feel from it. Obviously, he feels none.

Damn that sucks if true. I really do feel bad for them, but like what is the point of me donating if he's not going to speak out against this administration. Doesn't he realize it's not just about his situation, but for everyone else who's also impacted by this? I rather give to another family that will not only use these funds to hopefully turn their situation around but also you know like then also give back/help others and speak out. To be honest I didn't look into OP's comment to fact check because you know I'm only human, busy and got problems of my own. If true though this is really sad ....

[–] ClanOfTheOcho@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

There are already too many deserving charities for my pocket book. Giving money to an unrepentant Trump voter who got exactly what he voted for gets my sympathy, but not a dime.

Americans doing a GoFundMe is always funny to me. Like you clearly understand if you pool together money, you can make a big impact. For example when little Timmy needs a big operation and can't afford it, people can start a GoFundMe, everyone chips in a little bit of money and Timmy is covered. So if we scale that up a bit... NO, THAT'S COMMUNISM!

[–] Seleni@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

It’s racism. In America the answer is almost always racism.

Basically, with a GoFundMe, or ‘churches taking care of the poor’, or whathaveyou, you can make sure your money goes only to the poor Good Christian white folks, and none of it gets used to help those icky brown folks. Unlike government programs which have to help everyone equally.

Donating thoughts and prayers 🙏

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 43 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The thing is... I'm sure this is how other Trump voters look at him, too. Especially white people with no latino family or friends.

They just see him as a rube.

[–] Helvetica@sh.itjust.works 42 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Bartell, on voting for Trump despite his immigration policies: "He didn't create the system, but he does have an opportunity to improve it. Hopefully, all this attention will bring to light how broken it is."

Sheer delusion. I got news for you chump, Trump doesn't give a shit about fixing anything. He's not going to help you. He doesn't feel gratitude, he doesn't understand ethics. He already told you he only needed your vote one more time, he got it and now you're disposable.

They thought Trump was gonna make them all so rich, now they're begging for money and eggs. And it's just the beginning.

Stay in school.

[–] pivot_root@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Sch... school? They're dismantling the public institutions keeping education accessible. If they get their way, it's going to be straight to the farm, factory, and then Republican ballot boxes 18 years later.

[–] rslogix89@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago (1 children)

$3000? What do we look like were make of eggs… get fucked my guy. You voted for this. I would say suck an egg, but clearly you can’t afford it.

I'm not against helping but in this case ....

  1. "overstayed her work-study visa" -> Break the rules and it's likely there will be consequences. The reason why does not matter. ( although the case handling officer can show sympathy if they seem the reason valid )
  2. I'm no Trump fan, but he was clear on his plans, yet he still voted for trump

So, no, I'm not donating.

My vote for Harris was my attempt at helping you. Looks like you’re gonna need some bootstraps, bud.

[–] takeda@lemm.ee 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Stupid fucks. Got what he deserved.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I'm not so sure she did, though. Honestly being deported might be better for her than being stuck married to this jackhole, as sad as that is to say.

Why the fuck should anybody give this guy money to help him avoid the inevitable consequences of the policy regime that he voted in and still supports?

You can't GoFundMe your way out of being stupid.

[–] SinningStromgald@lemmy.world 18 points 1 week ago

Yeah, no thanks. Actions have consequences. You can visit her when they illegally deport her to some random country, could be anywhere Americans are horrible with geography.

[–] TommySoda@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

You wanna know what you could have done to avoid it? Not vote for the obvious fascist. He literally told you he wanted to do this since 2016.

[–] girlthing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If this man were to voice any sentiments short of full-throated Trump endorsement, would it make him more likely to see his wife again?

He could be terminally stupid, or this could just be the MAGA version of respectability politics. Pretending you're still one of the good ones so the leopards stay away from your face long enough for you and your loved ones to escape.

[–] boydster@sh.itjust.works 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

It's so frustrating that Camila doesn't deserve any of this, but the person saying they wouldn't change their decision and does deserve to see consequences will refuse to actually feel them.

Like, I want her out, but how dare this asshole say he regrets nothing while asking others to bail him out for the thing he voted for and still wants more of? Why is a social safety net OK in this case to this guy, but not for anyone else?

The detentions are a for-profit endeavor, the people are being treated inhumanely, and this is all some Nazi-level shit. I want all the allies that can be won away from the neofascists. I fucking hate this particular dude's refusal to recognize the taste of boot leather though, even as it impacts his supposed loved ones. It's maddening.

Free Camila.

Brad, this is what Trump does. You may succeed in raising that money, but someone else may not be so lucky. What would you say then?

[–] RedditRefugee69@lemmynsfw.com 30 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Brad probably doesn't give a flying fuck what happens to other people's families. That's a core tenet of conservatism in 2025.

most likely, some form of "fuck you, got mine"

[–] thefartographer@lemm.ee 15 points 1 week ago

Of course he has no regrets.

  1. He proudly voted for Trump, therefore he has no compassion for anyone who is not himself
  2. He proudly voted for Trump, a man known to value women only as a commodity. Why would he worry about this wife when he can get a new one at equal or better value?
  3. He proudly voted for Trump, a known grifter and therefore probably appreciates a good grift. These donations are likely going to support himself and he'll gladly let his wife be the face of "illegal immigrants can look like anyone."

How could he have any regrets? He's suddenly getting so much attention. See points 1 and 2.

[–] eric5949@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Isnt this the same dumbfuck who still supports trump after they took his wife? FAFO.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Good to see it's only at $800 at this time. I really hope it fails, but i have my doubts.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago

She sounds like "the worst of the worst". He should be happy she was deported.
